Im getting my dad a rod and reel combo for fathers day but I'm really bumbed as to what to get him. I was thinking a shimano eclipse 8kg combo. There cheaper but are pretty good. My price budget is $120

I was about to suggest that. If he is not "in need" of a combo, and you are just buying him a present, then I say ditch the rod and buy him a really nice reel. Otherwise, I'm not too sure about a rod, but I have a sienna, and it is amazing value for money.
Now thats every fathers favourite son^

I bought myself a sienna a few months ago and I love it to death. Dad needs a rod backside he only has a surf rod and always takes my favourite one on the boat. I might buy the rod and reel Individually like I did with my sienna/slingshot set up. Thanks for the advice

Just a thought mate, just wait for the beecee-eff fathers day sale. They quite often have a shimano Sahara combo for $129.

Tackle world have Daiwa Spellbinders for $99 right now. I know it doesnt leave any cash for a reel, but they are an awesome rod and you wont find a better rod for $100. Bought a 4-8 kg model for my old man for sunday.

If the spellbinders are that cheap ATM I'd go that way. For a 100dollars that's a bloody bargain
