Tournament Ettiquitte

After seeing a few things over the weekend I thought I would post this up. Obviously the unwritten "code of conduct on the water" cant get passed on telepathically, so since some newbies have confessed to being unclear, I thought this may help. Its not meant to discourage people, but it draws on the past decade or so of tournament fishing in Australia plus some great stuff from the USA.

From the US

This one is a collection of experience from around Aus and is a great read

Another from the US and has a few links at the bottom

Leon dropped his guts before the start on Sunday morning and I almost had to call it a day right then and there

He tried to blame it on Saturday night's pizza but no matter what's to blame, you can't do that in a comp...

Man i tried to keep you up wind cause it was bringing tears to my eyes as well. See what happens when you put the wrong fuel in such a highly tuned engine, was just bound to start backfiring a bit

if someone is fishing a bank on the shore and they're in a somewat stationary position and u pull infront of them on the same side around 100-150m down and then they start working their leccy and end up reaching u coz ur in a stationary position, does that count as cutting the person off? (if u can understand wat i mean)

Surely it is not a situation 2 tournament anglers are going to ind themselves in... As far as I know all tournaments are based from a watercraft of some type (Yak or boat). In general fishing I would consider this rude as the land based angler considering a). I was there first and b). the boat fisho have far more river to fish than I would have access to.

When you read it I think he means one boat is fishing one bank and appears stationary, then 2nd boat pulls in on same bank but 150m away, then first boat starts working up the bank, towards the new boat working the same bank. Is the second boat OK?

If I was in the first boat I don't think this would bother me, but I'm sure it would annoy others.

I think the rules say something along the lines of 30m, which seems a little close to me. 150m is a fair distance and seems fair.

They could always go to the system the flyfishing championships use, by drawing Beats. Ie on day one in the morning this fisherman can fish here and this one there. Some people will be happy (cause they get the good spot), most cranky. Then we can have a revolution, throw out this rule and most people will be happy again. For a while anyway.

its the same as when a livewell divider breaks and both non boater and boater have to decide who gets which fish... The only rule that counts is common sense and good sportsmanship
