I recently started using the fg knot and won't use anything else anymore
There is no floro tag to catch on anything. |

I experimented with a few knots.
My findings were: Improved albright quick and easy, OK strength, but weakens after multiple casts. 5 turn surgeons easy and strong - but bulky with micro-guides. SB with braid not doubled broke before the one with it doubled every time. SB with braid doubled broke before FG every time. FG also much slimmer, better for micro-guides, and less wind knots with long leaders as the knot doesn't "trap" the wraps over it on the spool. If I have to re-tie out on the kayak it's a slim beauty though. |

At the moment I do a bimini twist on my 3lb braid and tie to 4lb fluro with the improved allbright. Going to give the fg a go. Can anyone tell me if I will still need to do the bimini twist before tying the fg knot?

modified double uni knot is super easy to tie, works on light to moderate leader and braid thickness, doesnt bang against the guides either. have a look at the fish army tv page on youtube.

Bimini + reverse albright is one of the strongest knots but maybe someone can clarify but on 4lb, that tightening of the albright is going to bring a shitload of friction. But to double for an FG, I can't see what advantages that will bring? The Fg isnt tied in the loop.

I recently switched to the FG knot and it's great!
Been using it while squiding and I havnt lost a lure yet, use to loose them all the time with a slim beauty. When bream fishing i will tie up an FG knot at home, but if I need to re tie while out on the water I will just use a slim beauty. |
