4 stroke motors

hi everyone

could anybody give me any advice on 4 stroke motors
im gonna buy a new385 punt next week with a 20 hp honda on. i have never had a 4 stroke before but like the idea of fumeless trolling, or would it be better with a 30 2stroke
has anyone got the 20hp combination if so what does it go like
would appreciate any info on this, ive never had a dingy before so dont realy no much about them, im not sure if it would get on the plane.

thanks

mark

Mark, I saw a Honda 20hp 4str demo at the Quinnie place in North Perth (name excapes me lol) and it was pretty nice. Gas lift, electric start, backup ripcord, power out facility. Absolutely jim dandy.

I went the 30hp 2 str on my 385, bucks and grunt got the better of me, as opposed to the lack of noise and re-fuel convenience of the 4str.

I think Bear used to have a 20 on his Stessl (he's got a 30 now). Try sending him a PM, or even Richo who I believe has used it as well. And I think Chris Lemess currrently has a 20 4str now also

Good luck with it..

Mark,
I have the 30hp on mine and it's fantastic. No mucking around with oil, runs quiet and is very economical.

The great thing is the 20 and 10 are quieter than mine.

If you can afford it, I'd go for it. They are dearer, but worth it to me.

The 20 is an awesome motor. Got one on my 3.75m Quintrex Dart and it's great. If you step up to the 25 there's a significant weight increase. What's the boat rated to?

hi chris
thanks for the info
the boat is a 385 savage jabiru and the max weight on the transom is 50 kgs
the 20 hp is46.5 kgs, but the 25 is 67
i would say the 25 would be a lot quicker because of the xtra cylinder
but the 20 that im getting has power tilt and elec start
were as the 25 dosent have the power tilt
does the 20 get u on the plane ok?
