Thats the buggers - so when it comes to dunk-ability - does anyone close to ZeeBaas.

I noticed alot of striped bass Fishos pumping up the Daiwa BG but they were landbased guys who often got their legs wet but rarely intentionally waded out knowing their reel may go under

Nothing (that I know of) can really hold a candle to the Zeebaas in terms of "dunkability". They trade off is that they feel like a boat winch to wind.

The BG is definitely not dunkable. My mate dunked his very briefly, and I mean it was in water for less than half a second, and when I got it home to service it for him there was water in everything.

They employ "proper" seals which should be replaced every service... non of this bs magical fluid. They're proper surf spin reels the end.

Christ give it to them "micromodule" gears too 😂

Good to know - mine has been through the wars already by having my bike land on it - just bent the handle back into shape by wedging it inbetween a road side barrier and its good as new - but it hasnt been for a dip yet.

I've lost a couple of reels to a sudden wind gust - for what ever reason - the BG is the only one to come back from the dead

Yeah I spose there has to be a trade of somewhere - light weight and smooth or a bullet proof meat grinder

I'm continually impressed with how sturdy the BG's are, I honestly reckon they're the best "budget" spin reel out in their price bracket. The advantage the BG has over the saltists is the lack of a mag seal. The way I see it, if I dunk a BG I can strip in down in no time and it's good as new, I can't do that with a saltist. I kind of wish they made them with an alloy rotor, though. I'd put up with the extra weight.

Okuma Ceymar. That would be the only pick over low end D&S.I was surprised how this under $100 is nearly as smooth as Stradic Ci4+ and line lay is quite decent.

Thanks Piketronic - Okuma werent even on my "to purchase radar" mainly due to Mark Berg flogging them so hard. I dont hate Mark Berg but when something new is pushed really hard with nonsense claims - it turns me off a product.

But when I hear independent reviews such as yours - they go back on the list - thanks

The BG is a great reel for the price, can be serviced at home, no magseal and carbon drag as standard. ive got 3 of them for offshore stuff (hardly used tbh) but they work well for the price.

another bang for buck and more than adequate performance is the Shimano Sienna, both the old and new models are pretty good value.
have 4 of them for snapper use and performs flawlessly.

When I got out of the trade in 1996 Okuma reels were junk and poorly made.....where are they today??

Come to think of it who is actually manufacturing what and where???

Looks like the Saros chasis. The folding handle - how much play is in that?

The 2015 Model JDM Daiwa Revros 2004. Much nicer looking than the AUS version. Had a bit of wobble and play (as you'd expect for a $100 reel) but for the 2 or so years I owned it (fishing it several times a week) it was still as smooth as the day I bought it.
