heheh good one fella's!!

but on a serious note, i contacted the ranger out at fitzgerald, they captured 2 big cats in there cages a year ago. one was 19kg and the other 16kg.
these were not cougars but massive wild cats.
the animal i saw was easily a metre with such a glossy black coat on it the setting sun glared off it, i can take photos of the tree in which the claw marks are on when i go there next.
i told a client at work today and he said he also saw a cougar like cat feeding on a kangaroo carcis just outside denmark, it quickly fled as they drove up to it.
interesting topic

Hey Dowelly, many years ago 3 of us got a very good look at an animal very much like the one you describe on the old Tennessee Nth Rd on the way to the Bornholm clifs. It was pretty remote country then & we reported it to Fisheries & Wildlife (thats how long ago it was) and they said that they had recieved reports of a similar animal in the region arround that time.

As the story goes they are the decendants of large cats such as Cougars & Panthers etc brought by the Americans when they were in Albany during WW2, it was pretty common for ships to have mascot animals and when they got too big they let them go.

There was some footage on one of the current affairs programs a while back of 1 very large black cat and a smaller one that someone took on their property and they looked like Panthers to me and not domestic ferals.

Funny one... Barry Dawson has got the funky stuff.

We were fishing the Glenelg River in Victoria, and saw what lloked to be a very large cougar like cat there as well. Didny get a photo, as it was way to quick. When it saw us it was off .

good onya for having the guts to come forward with that sighting Dowelly.

too much to bother going into detail here.

here's a huge Hotbite thread (one of 3) you might find interesting.

http://www.hotbite.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=4277

if you feel up to telling me a bit more detail about the encounter (even the exact spot - i'm not interested in bream fishing or revealling secret spots) then please send a pm.

ripping around the grampians one day ona 4 wheel motorbikes with my cousin he lost his sunnies, we turned back and started searching for them. we checked everywhere until matt saw this lhole, he jumped in it (my cousin was 21 so it was a decent sized hole) and it opened up to a massive den with ha-uge paw prints and sh!t in it. this den was too big for a regular feral cat. alas his glasses were in there so we got them and got the hell out of there asap. my uncle lives at the base of one of the mountains there and he recons he's seen one a few times before. it would be pretty mad to be that close to one though dowell. it would make a cracking story at the pub.

Mark

Thats what i have always heard,,i don't think they are that dangerous,,i think they prefer to stay out of sight or move away quickly,,farmers are believed to have lost stock over the years to big cats.

I would like to find out how many the yanks released, i wonder how we might find out ?

On Edit > heres a link,,maybe 4 cougars plus the circus ones ? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cougars...tern_Australia
