Is this how everyone holds the newer Daiwa rods

I noticed my hand migrating to the front of the grip on the Gen Blacks - and that was before I cut the butts off.

There was a time, when this would have been a big issue for me but I dont fish like that anymore, so its cool.

I've always held rods with the reel stem between pinky and ring finger, usually with my index finger run along the grip to the blank. Only recently have I bought a rod with skeleton grips and find that they are way comfier with the reel stem between ring and middle finger, but otherwise ring-pinky seems better for small and controlled flicks in my hands.

Yeah I cut the butts off my rods because I find my guts get in the way on alot of retrieves. Especially when wearing winter jackets

Apart from the immediate effect on comfort levels - it also keeps my shoulders in better alignment on long sessions.

So I'm no stranger to sneaking a few fingers up onto the foregrip while retrieving.

But I did use the Gen Black for a few months, before cutting the butts off and found they were more tip heavy than rods I've used in the past.

I still like them alot as they are light and crisp (compared to what I've used in the past).

Ideally I'd like to have 2 fingers above the reel stem (as opposed to all 4) - but I'm learning thats very difficult to do on a 7fter without adding weight or length to the butt
