Tell me what can i use this set up for

First light outfit, tell me what range of fish I can target with this setup ..salt water

Reel:Spinning size 500
Rod:1.98m rod classed as light up to 10g lure line 2-8bl
Braid:Fireline 4bl is known for breaking at 10bl test
Total weight of rod and reel 238g w/- line

Not sure if the main line should have been a mono or FC but did buy that braid.
If I were to buy a leader for the braid I’m guessing 4bl.
What you guys think ?

Sounds like a great all rounder combo.

Go up and down in leader size and you can be catching bream, large flathead, jewfish and snapper all with that combo.

I assume it isn't a 500 size reel did you mean 2500?

Hi jonnie,

What brand is it, a 500 size reel is very very small with not much line capacity. Is it a Saraha?

I am also confused by the size of the reels - I initially thought you were matching huge reels to a very light rod

I hadnt even heard of size 500 spinning reels before but a google search confirms they exist - you should be able to fit enough braid to chase most Australian fish that dont run over 100m on light drag

I bought a couple different set ups all from Malaysia where they like to use light tackle. The reels being smaller than e.g. shimano stradics 1000 size but the line caps are around that .18mm- 135m you only get 3-4kg drag.
But these are easy on the wrist for multiple casting, did consider a BFS...BC but the lures will be light and swung over to spinning reels this time.

Really popular in the USA the 500 and 700 sizes for their version of BFS...

Mind you they still throw lures upto & past 10gr and consider it BFS...

However the quality of the reels have taken a dive recently...
