The best thing to do is to keep posting about fishing matters. Fishing reports, new fishing lures/gear and that will come up on Google and that will draw traffic and new members.

The advantage a forum has is that there can be deeper discussions that FB groups simply can't do. It's more like a FAQ on FB with simple questions. I still find that for eg. car forums or aquarium forums still have a lot of activity as deeper discussions are required.

Signing up to a forum is a massive hurdle and also posting up photos is not as streamlined as FB or insta. Also, overhead costs for keeping a forum alive.

I'm with the majority here, I don't like FB fishing groups at all. I reckon we can bring back BM - Nagz has made a good start and YD has kept a pulse going the last few months. We need more more reports I reckon - that's why I originally joined BM, so I could view the reports.

I think it was the technical hitches that BM was plagued with a while back that has caused the massive decline in posts. BM didn't seem to recover from that.

In my view, forum sites need to have a certain number of posts to maintain the reaction, where the actual volume of posts makes for even more volume. A lot of people got sick of unsuccessfully trying to log onto BM and just gave up completely.

I'm a member of some other non-fishing related forum groups and they're all doing it tough at the moment. Maybe Facebook is killing forum sites in general, I don't know if this is the case with BM though. I hope not.

Hopefully BM will make a big comeback and we will see a multitude of new posts every day.

^This

The tech issues BM had certainly compounded an already existent issue that is the simple fact that forums are dying in their current format, or at least taking a backseat to social media platforms where everything is fast, easy and dynamic.

I thought it really died off when the FB buy, swap, sell pages popped up. The other key sign of decline was when the monthly report stopped.

End of the day it's too easy to stick a pic on Instagram with a hashtag or an FB post than sit down and write a report. Shame though as the FB pages, I feel, tend to turn into a pissing contest over time.

It's a shame as there is a wealth of knowledge within the members of the site. The only benefit I see of joining Facebook is that manno isn't on it.

Maybe a site sponsor can offer up some prizes for reports etc?????????

Even a cheeky photo comp that’s NOT on FB for a change

I’m sure they won’t mind contributing for a change

If BM became just another Facebook group, it would be a big loss, IMO.
+1

Being able to search for and easily find old posts is one of the best advantages that BM has over Facebook. And theres so many old gems on here

I would personally be willing to run a stickbait/swimbait giveaway/photo comp to get a bit of action happening on here.

I miss your reports Mr P! You used to post some crackers. Re-sizing is a pain...how do you do it?

I'd be keen for a contest of some kind!

Someone with the expertise probably can have a crack at it with the available forum settings/add-ons.

For example, https://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=184571
