I know bugger all about crimps - so if someone could set me straight it would be appreciated

According to the chart I need a 1.7mm oval aluminum sleeve to crimp 1.6mm line.

But I want to double the line back through the sleeve like the photo of the rope below

I usuly put the coiled snipper line in there for about 2 mins and then quickly remove and then quenched the mendral in icy cold water to set the coils.

I do know of one lanyard still going strong 3 years fter being made and being carried on one guy who works full time and uses the tool attached near enough full time also...

Good quality materials is key i guess.
They look fantastic! What's the trick to thread the line through the paracord? I've just tried it and I couldn't get it to thread.

Larry, try making the sleeve oval by gently starting the crimp process, it will be easier to get through. also try heating the rope & using a narrower piece of sting to pull it thru. I would have thought you'd need a slightly larger crimp as well.

For one you got to gut the paracord.

The paracord should be longer than your snipper cord when both are straight.

Sleeve the paacord outer over the snipper wire and then wind over the mendral and proceed with the heating and cooling phases.

The finished product, with a bit of heat-shrink, crimps and a couple of swivels. Thanks again Slazmo.

Thanks for that - I might just take the line into a tackle shop and size it up properly

Crimps are for wimps 😂

Make your loop around a mendral, zip tie the end off with thww required length and bind the tag as i did and glue the bindings with epoxy. Then cover that with heat shrink.

Looks much neater in the long run.

You could try another method. Get some braided rope from Bunnings, jam a Phillips head down the middle to make a gap and melt the end into a point.

Then feed the melted point through the hole the Philips head made, and job's done. It's like a finger-trap holding the inside.

Thats sounds well with in my capabilities -

I'm already half way there with my melted bulb and zip tie arrangement - Just have to bind and heat shrink and I'm all the way there. Thanks

Looks very neat - How strong is that connection - would it need a dab of epoxy to hold it?

Great thread, seen some rad ideas here.

I'm quite please with this simple invention. $5 bait board that also holds my pliers. Used self tapping screws but that failed so added bolts to get it secure.

It's really strong, same principle as an FG knot. Just make sure you feed enough tag end through the rope centre, the longer the stronger

If you have doubts, you can make it stronger with this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3da6pgU2R4
