Don't know if I can find 10, but these are mine in order of preference (1 being most preferred):
1. SX40F in any of the gold variations or 339 2. Strikepro small fry II 3. Blades (no brand because I make my own) 4. Atomic fat grub 2" 5. Gulp sandworms 4" & 6" 6. Berkley power grub 2" Don't really use much else though I'm hoping to change that this summer. While I've got a magazine person online, there was this one mag that I only browsed through one day in a newsgent. I forget if its fishing world or sportsfishing Australia but there was this article in it featuring Tim Morgan and his favourite 3 lures. I vaguely remember one was an atomic hardz and the other was the tiemco stick minnow and he'd proceed to explain what lure he'd use where... I left in a hurry and when I wanted to find that mag again, it was gone. Any chance you could help me out here? |

Now you're telling me the same guys are making Mags and Dvds Dont hold back on that stuff - The AFN brand has always been synonymous with quality fishing productions in Victoria. Dont think of it as plugging - if its about AFN - Its a "public service announcement" My introduction to AFN occurred 30 mins into my first bait session in Northern Westernport many, many moons ago. (High tide launch with no knowledge of the channels - and a time when sounders were for flashy DohDohDohDohDohDohs At the 29min and 48sec mark everything was going good. 12 seconds later - we'd done ourselves a mischief on a mud bank. We were aiming for a hole, just off a bluff on French Island - in an over-loaded tinny with no tilt control on the motor. Best way to get there? - the general concensus of the pissed idiots polled was - as the crow flies The solution was - dig through the frozen pippies and pilchards we bought at PW's Fishing World, to find the map that PW said we'd be idiots not to buy........... read the map......then put the arse of the fattest bloke on the boat in the anchor well to lift the motor out of the mud. Then once we got some pace up - just gun it till we hit the channel. The gummies werent there but we smashed the whiting.....I still have the indent of a sand anchor in my arse and finnished the day with wet socks Without the AFN map - it could have got very ugly. |

Yeah we make all kinds of things in the willy wonkers factory that is AFN. We even have this guy "walkingwithboys" or something that chips in with bream stuff every now and again. Off the back of another thread I know you have been rummaging through, I have documented the microvibe technique for all to see on the next Sports Fish DVD. Not a plug for the DVD but a plug for the handsome man who presents in it

Tim is a gun to fish with and a top bloke to boot. Your right, his 3 tier approach was a hard bod, then a stick minnow, then a Gulp Shrimp in the deeper water out from the shoreline. It was an eye opening experience. I'll see if i can rustle up an old copy for you. Or PM me and i might shoot you a PDF of the article instead. |

This is a good idea for an article, it would also be an interesting extension to find out the top ten lures on yellowfin and black bream in seperate polls. I reckon yellow bream fishos would rate topwater lures much higher than us who fish mainly for Blacks.
Anyway here is 10 of my top lures, the order could probably change each time I think about it though 1 sx40 2 Chubby minmow 3 Tiemco stick minnow sinking 4 chubby deep 5 eco VX 6 daiwa gekkabijin sinking 7 eco zx 8 rapala Husky Jerk 9 powerbait bulky hawg. 10 squidgy wriggler. Appologies: mirashad, presso minnow, many blades, eco grass minnow, gulp minnow, monster miki, mighty pepper, sugar deep, pointer

[QUOTE=Piscateur;320221]Funny how there are always knockers even to simple questions, anyways good Luck with the article.
I wasn't knocking the asking of a question, more simply pointing out that whatever info he gets seems to have no context. Presumably the article is intended to be informative and I was wondering how you could generate an informative article from asking 200 random people for a list of 10 lures without knowing: 1. where they fish (ie which state) 2. What sort of lures they've actually used. 3. Whether they are good or indifferent at fishing for bream (ie pros, good amateurs, or once a year) 4. what sort of bream they are targeting. 5. Whether they fish from a boat or are shore-based. 6. Whether they fish rivers, ocean, around piers, structures or flats. 7. Whether they are fishing deep or shallow. With even a little bit of that background about each person's list, an overall top 10 could be super-informative and make for an interesting article, but without any of it, it just seems pretty lazy journalism to ask "What's your favorite lure?" of 200 random people without finding out anything more and then knocking an article together. I'd hope most fishing mags go to a little more trouble than this when writing articles about favorite lures for particular species. Just my opinion is all. Admittedly, I'm flicking through the lists and getting ideas from people who i know fish near me or in water's like where I fish, but this 'journo' won't have that info. That's all i was asking of him - how is this going to become an article in a magazine that people will be paying for when people (me anyway) expect the journos to have some expertise in the area they are writing about so that I can learn something. Perhaps there is something he's getting here that will be informative- I was simply asking how this sort of vox pop 'survey' will become an article worth buying? my top 10: 1. sx40 2. squidgy wriggler 3. Strike pro micro vibe 4. Squidgy critter. 5. jackall chubby deep diving 6. Gulp 6" sandworm cut back to 4" 7. plastic grubs and worms (various sorts and colours) 8. Bassday Konguku Shad 9. Tiemco stick minnow 10. Halco sneaky scorpions That's about all of my regulars that I'd regard as reliable bream catchers! Last edited by Cortinaboy; 22-09-2010 at 12:04 AM. |
