Yeah mate - I have two 2500's.
Kind of spewing they don't do a 1000, but the 2500 isn't a huge different in feel for me having come from 1000 FG's. They are both on 2-5kg Ian Miller T Curves. Super smooth, on par with Stella/Twin Power, plenty of drag pressure/smooth drag and line capacity. A good allrounder in general. I've used it for Trout, Redfin, Mulloway, Bream and Squid - very happy with it. I threw it for snapper on the weekend but wasn't confident in the area I was fishing, that the rod i had the 2500 on was going to stop these 8+kg fish in a hurry.. Can't comment on long term durability since they are quite new, but they're still like the day I bought them and they've been out over a dozen times with me already.

Ok so I bought 2 x 2500FI Sustains for my Infinites to replace my 5 yr of FG's which have served me very well for a low $200 reel.
Initially I was quite impressed but when I got home and spooled them up my opinion started to change. I had to mess around with the adjustment washers to get the line to lay right, no big deal, after I sorted that I noticed the drag on one of the reels was quite lumpy, I headed back to the shop and the reel was swapped for another. Then I noticed the line roller was wobbling when rolling, back to the shop again to swap over the one piece line roller assembly. After fishing the reel for a couple of hours the line roller started to make a noise and felt gritty, I tried to lube it with a drop of oil but no good. I also begun to notice how clunky the reel was when retrieving the lure, particularly when twitching the lure on the retrieve. The play between the main gear and pinion gear was quite a lot, giving the reel a clunky feel, a shim may have improved that but I was not going to open up the reel in fear of voiding warranty. Any way l was really frustrated and regretful about the purchase. So I spoke to the guys at the shop and they let me return them and start a fresh with another model. I really like Shimano products but for a $440 reel the FI was disappointing for me.

My sentiments too.

Should've just bought a FK Stradic and saved yourself a lot of cash and grief.

New Shimano gear is pumped out too quick and shares too much commonality between series, the old stuff did too but the emgineering was pretty honest about it all.
