Do dogs hate fisherman
I got bailed up again last night. Same scenario as usual - Minding my own business not even looking at the dog and it comes over and starts snarling, barking and pacing around like a lunatic. I tried ignoring it but it kept getting bolder and closer every time I turned my back.
The owner comes over and tells me that a dog that shows unprovoked aggression to humans and doesnt listen to her commands, is nothing to worry about. I'm 100% sure my bike enrages some dogs but I'm beginning to think they dont like fishing either. Or is it just me they hate? |

Just googled what to do if a dog comes up to start trouble, to see if I was doing anything wrong
(Edit - been doing some further reading and others recommend being assertive and using a strong powerful voice commands like sit, stay and go home - so there are different approaches) WHAT TO DO IF THREATENED BY AN AGGRESSIVE DOG 1) Remain calm and still. Don't run. This is a race you will not win. If you are alone, back away slowly. Do not turn your back. 2) If you are on the ground, curl into a fetal position, cover your head with your arms, and keep your fingers curled in a fist. 3) Avoid eye contact. Remember, staring an aggressive dog in the eyes is a challenge. 4) Do not smile at the dog 5) Use a soft, soothing tone of voice. Loud, angry-sounding words and screaming only spur on the dog. 6) If he bites you, DO NOT PULL AWAY. This only spurs the dog on. Remain calm. Try to put something between you and the dog like your purse, jacket, bicycle, backpack, etc. Don't hit the dog. Again, just makes the situation worse. WHAT TO DO IF YOU GET BITTEN 1) If the bite is serious, call 911. 2) Wash the bite wound thoroughly with soap and water. If the wound is deep, painful, discolored, or swollen, contact your medical professional. 3) If possible, confirm the dog's rabies vaccination status. 4) Report the bite to your local authorities and veterinarian. Turns out my instincts arent helping the situation - Turning my back and pretending they arent there - then when that doesnt work - Staring them down and giving them some stern words may not be the best way to deal the problem Last edited by yellow door 1; 13-07-2018 at 03:32 AM. |

Yeah they figured highly in people most attacked - A territorial, possessive, defensive and protective attack, is easier to understand than what happens to me. I'm just standing still, casting and staring at the water waiting for a trout to rise.
Maybe its the casting action that fires them up Other people dogs like to hassle are - people in wheel chairs and those using a walking sticks and canes. |

I have a good friend who's father, who is as mad as a hatter, has on not just one, but two separate occasions been latched on to by aggressive dogs only to then pick up the dog and bite it back.

Its just occurred to me that the last 4 times dogs have had a go, there have been a few common denominators - its always at dusk and the owners are always middle aged women on their own - their dogs dont listen to voice commands and are off the lead - and they are walking past a huge manly man wearing a black hoody The breed of dog doesnt seem to be too important - Black Lab, Blue Heeler, healer mongrel mix and German Shepard were the last 4 From what I've read, dogs often feed off their owners emotions - so maybe the owners are a little nervous walking around a lake as it gets dark, so their dogs are on high alert. The owners are probably secretly delighted they have such a loyal companion |

Untrained unleashed dogs annoy the crap out of me. Generally it's the owners fault not the dog. It's not that hard to train some basic commands to your pet. If it won't listen then don't let it off the lead. I feel your pain.

"He doesnt like men" "Dont worry he's just playing" "He's never bitten anyone" "He doesnt like people wearing black" "You look like a tradie - he doesnt like tradies" When they start giving instructions on how I should behave, so I dont further antagonise their dogs, Im pretty sure they know their dog has some issues |

Just had a look on ebay - I assumed there would be some restrictions on their sale - but at first glance, it seems there are many reasonably priced options available to the public
