What lb flouro for trolling 4m divers
My Dad wants to start trolling out the back of his one man, out rigger canoe, in eastern PPB.
Mainly targeting the 4-6m reefs with 4m diving bibbed minnows. What lb flourocarbon line would you suggest? He's a complete novice so I'm trying to keep things as simple as possible (hence the flouro straight through) |

If you want to keep it simple, give 8-10kg Straight through mono a go - try a 30lb leader if you want a tough front section.

I'll bring back a brand that many have probably forgotten about.
Jinkai. Go 40 - 60lb - most leaders are crystal clear and super thin, so it's not as thick as you remember it to be. Unsure what's being targeted on the troll but as you may encounter God knows what - always good to be over insured.

10kg straight through sounds like the go so far - and if he loses lures due to rub offs on the reef - so be it |

My dads managed to get to 70+ without taking an interest in fishing, so I dont want to spook him too early with the annoying parts of the game 95% of the stuff likely to take a lure is under 3kg, so a few blokes have suggested 10kg line straight through as a good fit for PPB's featureless reefs Last edited by yellow door 1; 25-09-2020 at 07:58 PM. |

Another vote for the 10kg. Keeping it simple seems to be a forgotten art these days but can also be extremely effective.

Yeah I still hate tying leader knots now, so if using braid isn’t absolutely necessary for a beginner, I won’t recommend it to start with

Double uni or similar. If all else fails run a swivel or a solid egg / round ring.

Thanks Slaz. I keep that in mind if he runs into issues with 20lb straight through
