hey welshy. they are a bit more expensive down here than up there. but i got him for about $200 in the off season when he was about 5cm. so he's grown quite alot! definately an advanced fish to keep. he is in brackish water at the moment. started off in fresh and have begun adding salt. amazing how much more active he has become since the salt was introduced. and his colours have changed too. he is in a 4x18x18 at the moment. but he will need atleast a 4x2x2...

go for it! look in the right places and you can find places that sell Bass or Jungle Perch! now THAT would be an interesting species to keep. as they school so more than 1 to a tank. my Jack doesn't like tankmates for some reason
OR i'd love to keep a Sooty Grunter. that would be epic. but probably up there in difficulty with the Jack....

That's awesome especially that surface smash - Top effort. Have keep both barra and murray cod in a 3 ft fish tank and surprisingly the cod was the most savage. He used to keep knocking the heater off its suction cups to get your attention in the hope for a feed and you put your hand in there at your peril. To reattach the heater I had to wave my fingers above the water in one corner no closer than 2 inches while I put my other hand in the other end in a fist so he didn't bite you fingers. One day he smashed my fist around the top knuckles mouth fully open then violently headshaked like a shark chewing a dead whale resulting a nice round laceration about 50 mm across. I used to feed him live crickets and grapes !!! Thinking on setting up another tank with a school of Spangled Perch but get slack on water exchanges we'll see. Again great video Pat

Had a south american silver arowana that i paid $250 for at the end of a summer. The middle of the next summer i put it and some other fish in my neighbours pool that he wasnt using. Every week or so I would catch a mouse in the house or backyard. Chucked them in the pool and SMASH! Early autumn he was full color and about 65cm. Sold him for $1200. SWEET.
