Abel Nippers too pricey? Heres the best $10 cutter for $8
I recently conducted a survey of some of the most respected anglers in the country.
Who makes the best $10 braid cutters? - 100% of anglers said "those blue berkley ones with the blunt ends" And now they are 20% off Last edited by yellow door 1; 11-05-2018 at 02:42 AM. |

Shimano braid cutters were also Highly rated but the old black handled Rapalas were universally hated

Of the reasons the berkley scissors rated highly - "You can carry them in your pocket without fear of puncturing your scrote", was my favourite

If I had my acrylic paints on me, I could turn them into $300 cutters in no time Last edited by yellow door 1; 11-05-2018 at 09:32 PM. |

About to order a pair

Just found a 4 year old pair I thought I'd lost and it was still cutting limp 6lb braid - (admittedly it took a few goes to find the sweet spot and I was cutting quite close to where the braid was pinched between my fingers - but there was no tension on the braid being cut off)
Edit - just did the test with my newer shimano scissors and they performed even better I'll do a proper comparison when my brand new berkleys arrive Last edited by yellow door 1; 11-05-2018 at 09:44 PM. |

So if you can wait a few days I'll be able to give a more accurate comparison - but the much newer shimanos were cutting way better along the length of the blades. Where as the I had to move the braid further into the Jaws of the berkleys to get a clean cut ( this may suggest I had worn out the tips with a couple of years of cutting braid)
But as I said - the berkleys are quite old and well used - time will tell Last edited by yellow door 1; 11-05-2018 at 09:49 PM. |

You do have an affinity for getting the most out of junk
I enjoy my nippers, but not as much as you seem to be enjoying yours. Im looking forward to you turning a sienna into a Stella, that thread would have potential

That's fine. I went ahead and ordered it anyway. Finding a good pair of scissors is a true struggle these days. I have a newish pair of those dodgy rapalas to compare to when the Berkleys come in.

Snow Peak
When I started brimmin the small Shipton braid scissors with a yellow handle were king, then used the Owner version for ages until I found these,
snowpeak_ac007.jpg Far & away the best scissors for limp braid I have used. http://japantackle.com/snow-peak-scissors.html Boris put me on to them in the 'old days'
