Saltwater friendly finesse baitcaster

Hi All

Apart from an Alphas Type R, what other reels can be thrown into the mix as a light weight finesse (although I realise a stock type R is not strictly finesse) baitcaster reel.

I'd love to throw a Pixy and Steez into the mix, but I need something a little more versatile than a freshwater only reel.

It will be matched to a Steez SPX Mega Top.

Cheers.

Man I use Pixy's and Pixy type r's in the salt as well as the fresh and they haven't let me down. As long as if you regularly service them and thoroughly clean them after each use they will be fine.

I've considered using a pixy r and washing it well after use, which I do with all my reels anyway, but it's a fair wad to throw away if it blisters after 12 months.

What about little 50 size chronarchs and curados? You can mod em up a bit to handle light lures if you need to

They're a slightly cheaper alternative, even though they would be sinful on a steez rod

Thanks for the suggestions.

The revo is sub 200g which fits into my criteria (sorry, should have mentioned that before) apart from that all the others are probably a bit on the heavy/chunky side to what I'm chasing.

I think an alphas is the best fit but was curious to know of comparable reels to its weight and size.

I have gone off Shimano since they dropped the ball a bit with regards to the quality of their low profile baitcasters a few years ago.

I'd prefer to stick to Daiwa but I'm not bound to that by any means, but I certainly do think they are the superior reel these days.

Although im a daiwa fan, the shimano scorpion xt is reported as an excellent finesse bc and is salt friendly.

i don't think there are too many saltwater friendly finesse bc reels around. i know a lot of people use reels advertised as freshwater only but make sure they give them a good clean after each use.
i have a revo LT which is going well but i haven't used it in salt so far. well priced, smooth and casts lighter weights really well.

You have already mentioned it, but the Daiwa Alphas Type-R with a HedgeHog bearing upgrade kit and a Megabass Finesse Spool

If you can wait a while, I've heard Shimano is bringing out a Conquest 50 (JDM) in 2015. I'd reckon it will be an updated version of the old model, which are saltwater safe. Can't wait!
