Heavy popping knot shock leader

I've been having trouble with the fg knot with heavy leaders
I have only been running 4m of fluro 40-80lbs leader and doing the fg knot but I notice the small bump of fluro tag half hitch knocks on the guilds and causes tangles. Only using this on large eyelet rods is the there a better knot for big casts

This is a good knot for average casts but when I'm trying to peg it as far as I can

when I was popping for GT's and using leaders to 100lb I never had an issue with it mate, never felt it knocking on the guides and certainly didn't have any tangles. This includes any spin work I was doing up there for smaller pelagics using 20-40lb leaders. Sounds like you might not be cutting the tag end small enough if its getting caught/bumping the guides

you don't mean you half hitched the fluoro tag end do you? There should no no knots or hitches in the fluoro at all, only in the braid.

If you are doing that then I can't understand why you would experience any issues mate! One of those things Id have to see for myself

Hey mate , just read through the replies and everyone has pointed you in the right direction. Just a few punters that I find helpful

Burning the end of the leader isn't needed ,it's just a personal thing and on light lines it's not needed . I still don't do it on PE10 and 200lb leaders

Some will say they half hitch down the main line , and again it's a personal choice , and on light lines you do run the chance of line burn so be careful.

Remember that FG is a friction knot and it will always tie better in mono than fluro , but as majority do you can tie it up in both .

Ha ha and never half hitches in your leader

Good luck mate

knots

I use the pr knot ive found its almost as quick to tie and is unbreakable.I have used the fancy bobins to tie the knot but found the old fly tieing bobbin with 3 wraps around the arm supply the exact tension you need with a plastic sewing spool and costs around $10 complete.
Cheers Graham
