Using grinner knot as the stopper, whatever it may be called, under testing its much better than the traditional slim beauty where the tier of the braid pushes open the double granny knot of the fc. I'm pretty happy with the adjustment, it just as slim.

If your braid is "pushing open" your overhand knot then quite simply you're not tightening your overhand knot sufficiently when finishing off the knot.
You're doin it wrong

I think if it is opening he is going through the figure of eight on the wrong face.

Someone here on BREAM MASTER posted this ages ago.
It is the easiest way to start a slim beauty.
The pink represents the leader and the green the main line.
Feed the main line through the leader knot this way and when you close the leader knot the main line is automatically fed correctly.

ive switched to slim beauties and they are great
and when i get snagged and have to bust th lure off, it hasnt yet broken at the leader knot
what i do it a tripple of quadripple granny knot
and pull it down till it twists aroun and forms a figure eight
then thread the line strait in one loop and out the other, no wrapping around
then spread the leader and braid, and do 10 wraps and then back through the spreaded loop
and tighten the figure eight first, then pull the braid main line
and tighten the whole knot, works fine for me

Slim beauty is an excellent knot and as many others have said it just needs to be tied 100% correctly. To make a bigger figure of eight knot I tie a figure eight knot in the leader instead of a double granny- you can make this figure eight as big as you like.

Another knot i use probably more than the slim beauty is the Melville Special as detailed in last May's edition of Fishing World magazine. It is just as strong as the slim beauty but far quicker to tie and comes up even smaller because it has no figure eight in it.

Fishing World issued an updated sketch of the original saying that there has been failures in it but for mine the original knot is the better one.

Having persisted with the slim beauty and having not snagged on anything major, I haven't had any issues but it's still not as strong as the improved albright (which is the knot I used to use) under line testing. When pulled with extreme force, the sb always opens up the leader knot. But hey, I'm willing to compromise this for a knot that does fly smoothly through the guides and if I don't snag on anything that I need to pull more than 4-5lb, the sb knot is great.

one thing not mentioned with knots you have a tag end and a leader end,,when pulling the knot up tight some knots require the tag end to be pulled and others the leader end,,as in the allbright if you tighten it by pulling the tag end it breaks but if you pull it up evenly with both then put the pressure on with the leader end it tightens it up with way the line flows,,same as slimbeauty pull up evenly with tag and leader and then tighten with leader end
