One for those who struggle with the FG Knot

Found this online the other day. I have never seen this before and will definitely help those who struggle a little with the FG knot. Looks remarkably easy to use and cheap to purchase. Unsure if i am allowed to post up direct product links but here goes.

Used one that a friend had, it didn't end pretty.

Found the easiest way is to use the bottom guide as an anchor point for the braid.

I've tried one and prefer this. Small enough to keep in your pocket.

It holds the leader as well, making the FG easier to tie.
Also, I don't tie the 2 half hitches with leader immediately after FG wraps. Just 4 or more half hitches with the braid over the leader, then finish off as in the vid.

Have one of these. As well as 2 knot assist 2.0 tools. Knot assist ties a far nicer knot. Easier to use as well. Id happily give my fg wizz away for free.

It looks like i will be keeping the Knot assist 2 tools i have and not purchasing one of the FGwizz things. Just goes to show that everything you see on the net is not always as good as it is portrayed. Thanks for all the information guys.

I dont half hitch the fluro but i guess thats so he can get it off the sticks, honestly if you can't tie an fg you should give up fishing.....i wouldn't advise taking up knitting either.
cheers nereus

Yeah half hitching the flouro seems like madness to me - why would you go to the trouble of having a skinny knot, then fatten it up by half hitching the flouro when its not required.

Edit - - - - Just realised when he half hitches with the fluoro he pulls it tight and that somehow transfers the hitch to the braid leaving the leader straight with no hitches

I'd also recommend not giving up on learning how to tie one with out a tool. I just kept plugging away at it, trying all different methods, until I found the method that worked best for me.

I bet half the fishing public wish they had the nimble fingers and coordination that you possess neurus. Its not a particularly easy knot to tie. Im happy with the results i get but im tangled in line to do it. Agree with the half hitching the leader though.

Maybe give up fishing if you cant tie a uni....

Cold damp winters mornings with low light and mature age dexterity chuck in a bit of breeze and we both use the knot assist tools here. I looked at the gadget i originally posted and thought what a great idea bolted to my bench or boat but apparently not. The FG's tied with the assist tool are simply perfect and fast to tie. We can tie without but prefer the easy secure way no going back for me even if i do look like a wouse.

Yeah fair enough - I spose the beauty of the FG is, when you match the braid to a slightly weaker leader - you usually only need to tie it once a day.
