uni to uni knot help
I fish with fireline with a vanish leader. i'm having problems tying auni to uni knot between the fireline and leader. At the moment I'm using 6lb fireline to 4lb leader and having problems because of the fine lines I'm using.I have practised on 12lb line and don't have a problem. Does somebody have a secret method when line is so fine.
Thanks |

Don't be afraid to waste line and make sure that your loops that you make are big enough to work with. I always make the loop big enough to put my finger through so that it holds it in place and holds it open. Can tie it with my eyes shut. Be sure to wet the knots with saliva before you pull them tight too.
P.S. any reason why this is in the WAFM Chat section? Last edited by Justin Boyle; 08-04-2010 at 03:19 AM. |

As Justin said lube is the key lets also dont forget fireline is tough stuff it breaks well over double the breaking strain...

John, don't pull each uni up too tight before you pull the two knots together, just cinch them.
Once you have the two knots touching pull the lines & tags at the same time (for a couple of times) then pull the knots up tight. If you have done it correctly the tags should finish parallel to the line. It is essential that the braid and the knot is well lubricated before you start pulling the leader uni along the braid, else the friction (heat) will weaken the leader part of the join. Where are you located? Animated version here: http://www.marinews.com/Double-Uni-Knot-267.php

it would also be worth a try down sizeing to 3 or 4 pound fireline, the 3 pound crystal stuff is super strong and hassle free.
You will get a lot of benifet from dropping down a few pounds.

I've heard of people doubling up their fireline so that the
two lines are about the same thickness. this can stop the knot from pulling over itself. |
