New reel choice...

After a few years of not buying or being in touch with what's new and improved in the tackle scene (a new baby will do that to you), I'm thinking about getting a new reel.. Not thinking of anythign too high end (ie. Exist), not even a certate (if that is still available). Looking more at the new Luvias but don't know anything about it. Reading about opinions on shimano vs daiwa confuses me even more.
I used to be a shimano fan until I tried out the Certate, and after that it was Daiwa. Now I'm not sure especially with the time off I've had...
If going by the options that were available last I looked I'd be considering:
1. Shimano stradic (good reliable workhorse)
2. Caldia Kix (have one and its reliable enough without being outstanding)
3. Daiwa Luvias (don't know anything about them).

What other options would I be looking at for this price range?

If you can stretch the budget you could possibly pick up a very good second hand Steez.

(I know these "stretch your budget" replies are annoying")

The new model stradics are a great reel, alot smoother than the previous ones. Nothing wrong with them IMO

hey cheif, having had a couple of new and older model luvias i know i can vouch for how good they are for the money, they are not as stella/exist/steez but still a mighty cool reel for the money. Ive recently heard the firebloods have been discontinued so you might be able to pick up one of those for a reasonable price same with a shimano aspire, both reels are very similar internally to the older model stella.

hope ive helped

peace

Something a bit different but worth a look - http://www.breammaster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27155

Are you buying online or from a tackle shop? For the price of a luvias in Australia you could get a certate overseas..

Cheers

You know, I dont play the online game or anything, but I thought it was cool anyway.

Just how much have the firebloods been discounted?

I get the Luvias for your budget, ive had mine for about 3 months now and couldnt be happier with it, no problems at all. Then again its only 3 months

Also the Luvias is much lighter than the Certate

Some very cheap second hand exist and steez went by a couple of weeks go. I'd hold off for them and you will never look back.

Hi CHUNQX, long time no speak, welcome back!

Try SOL, I am quite happy with my 4

The new Stradic was way too heavy and noisy to my liking. Sold it.

Or a Heartland 2000, cheaper than a Luvias but still a good reel.

not sure how much they have been discounted but in the few tackle shops in brisbane where they are still available they have been around the 400 mark, not many left that ive seen though, just food for thought

Thanks Alex. Must admit its not so breaming I'm doing on my comeback trail. Been fishing from the Hobie for other species lately and it rocks.

Thanks for the suggestions. Might look at the Luvias then.

Have a look at the shimano aspire - ray & annes have them very cheap since they have been discontinued, and they are a very good reel for the price.

fishing from kayak.........only lead to daiwa coastal inshore reels.full CRBB bearings, you cant go wrong with that.just keep in mind that most reels will suit your application but whatever you bought will be dunked/sprayed by saltwater more often than the boaters.sure that you will rinse it off after each trip but still corrosion is always the problem especially on bearings.
