Revo or HRF

Hi guys,

I need help on choosing a new barra reel. I know this isnt a barra orientated site but i thought that there may be some people who would be able to help me out. As the title states im am looking at getting either a Abu Garcia Revo Inshore or a Daiwa HRF. Can anyone give me an insite is to which is a better reel.

Thanks, Adam

I got the Zillion HLC, love it. Also you can consider Daiwa Ryoga/Pluton, a lot of power, a bit on the heavy size though

Ryoga/Pluton would be great but might be a bit out of his budget if he is looking for an Inshore/HRF.
Im not too sure about the HRF but i've heard rave reviews about the inshore from barra anglers. It actually depends on the style of barra fishing because i've heard of impoundment barra anglers using the lightweight revo premier for barra work to good effect. Other reels in that price range that you might want to consider are the Curado E 100(?)/200. Oh and the reel that won the TT highspeed shootout in Ikokazes link is selling for around 200 USD atm, reduced from about 300USD. That reel is also nice.

How are you finding the Ryoga? Did you get the normal or the bayjigging model?
I wonder if anyone on BM has a Megabass Bespoke...

I have the normal Ryoga left hand winded. The reason is the bayjig does not have the Mag-Z cast assist I guess. And there is plenty of power in the normal one already. If I want I can just replace the handle. But I don't see the need at the moment.

Megabass reel yeah. I think they are vastly overpriced. I was tempted though. One of my friend has the old ITO tunned megabass and he hates it.

I would love a zillion but i wouldnt use it enuf to make it worth it. Also is a Daiwa Coastal 153H comparable to these. I am worried it may be a bit small.

Are you going to use it for just barra? It might be just me but i dont think a barra reel would need excessive amounts of line on it...?
(for example, check out the barra that fellow BM member Try Hard catches on his little chronarch 50MG)
Just the drag has to be up to standard. I think the revo inshore can handle up to 24lbs of drag pressure so a bit above 10kgs of drag.
Btw Inshore > Coastal,

shimano's

You could have a look at the new curado E series from shimano, ive got the smaller 200e7 and its amazing, the drag is beutifull, easy to adjust and incredibly smooth. The larger model is the 300e which i could imagine would be just as good. the other model is the 200e5 which is the same as the 200e7 but its got a lower gear ratio which could be usefull for barra.

I've got both a HRF and a Curado200E5 and have used them on barra, the HRF is great however i would pay the xtra $50 or so for the Curado. The Curado is smoother and lighter than the HRF, it can cast lures a mile and has no probs pulling in a 1M+ barra.
Cheers Dylan.

It would have to have a fair bit of line capacity as i would like to use it on GT's also on the reefs. It would also be used for mangrove jacks. I think i would go for a curado as i am only in high school and work at maccas and $50 is a fair bit more for me.
