Abrasion resistance in braid

Hey all, any opinions on type and brands for best abrasion resistance?
Eg fused styles vs x4 or x8 PE etc.
I want a smooth casting line that won’t evaporate if it touches an oyster rack!
Cheers matt

Well I picked up some Aldi braid a while ago....tested it against four brands costing $60 -
-$106 per spool. The four broke after 8- 16 runs over a piece of wet gum in a vice....absoluteley gob smacked the Aldi braid took 36-38 to fail.

Thrown me completely out of whack about diameter and cost

I'm gonna have a punt here. Without having done any testing of any sort besides fishing experiences, I'd say the rougher the braid is, the more resistant to abrasion it is. More limp and smooth braid seems to be prone to breakage when coming into contact with sharp surfaces.

Also, more expensive braids could be less abrasion resistant than cheap braid because cheap braid is often rough and well over the breaking lb ratings indicated which means they are even thicker.

I agree with that punt I reckon you’re onto it there. I guess throwing 12 strain pe around racks is a silly idea anyway so cheaper the better

Chatting with a tackleshop owner about my findings.... he gave me a sample of jbraid!!! Got fed up with sawing it backwards and forwards😞with no sign of wear......
Just adds to my confusion 😁

More expensive "high end" braids are thinner than bargain bin crap of an equivalent breaking strain, so you're usually better off just going with a thicker expensive braid than cheap stuff. I don't think the term "abrasion resistance" belongs anywhere near the list of properties that braided lines have in any case. doesn't matter if you're running 4lb or 12lb, if a good bream gets you wrapped in an oyster rack you're done.

What about a cheap and cheerful line like Fireline Exceed?
With no micro fibres and coated surely it’ll be better than a Jbraid type line?
I’m not after casting distance just something to flog and be up to a bit of punishment...

Sounds like it would do the job. What about Power Pro? Relatively cheap, extremely strong and tough.

From memory tuff braid was better but none are very good compared with mono.

The more thick and horrible the line is definitely better but you are better off not letting the fish go into the racks

Last time I spooled (a few years back) my 5000s was with an X8 YGK Ultra Castman in PE2.5 (40lb) and that was spoofy to cast and use.

Just purchased another 300m (for a new 6000 reel) of the latest version of the same YGK and the PE2.5 is now rated to 48lb so I am interested to see the difference between the last lot I purchased.

Easily the best I have ever used, and reasonable price depending where you go.

cheers

I love that ygk stuff too, I use the gsoul X8 0.6. I’ve had it on 2 reels over 2 years now! Quality stuff

Possibly against my better judgement I went with 11lb fireline exceed on my reel. Variety is the spice of life....
I haven’t used a fused line for ages so it is a big difference to supple braid but it casts really well and is tough as on first impressions. I read somewhere it breaks at over 17 lb so I’ll be ripping heads off
