Whats the idea? Another material?

Cork, teflon, delrin and other materials have all been used with good results.

I have swapped over to carbon washers over a year ago and have noticed the drag smoother and a greater range in drag, be hard to go back to felt. The tighter the drag was a lot smoother and less stickier than felt.
I am running twin power 1000 MG 2009 and a fireblood 1000.

Interesting,

What grease did you use?

I would have thought that grease would make some difference? In my case the carbon washers gave me the opposite - far less range of drag. This is why I went back to felt.

Shimano drag washer grease ACE-2. Definitely given me greater range, I don't know if it's because of the grease.

Found the same, more drag overall and smoother drag using carbon washers with Daiwa ultimate tournament drag grease.
I have a couple of the new Daiwa ATD reels and feel the Carbon drag is smoother still.

Many years ago, Mitchell used Teflon in their 307/4 ? reels. I had a problem with the felt in a Straic 1000 ci4+. had no replacement so used a teflon. works fine. But I don't use much drag pressure with 4lb leader.A hint of Cale Grease. Regards Howard.

I recently bought a few sets of Daiwas felt washers and some Daiwa drag grease. Gonna rebuild the drags on a few old reels that used to be silky smooth.

yep go the felt IMO carbon doesn't stick but isn't as smooth as good felt and also offers less control. Some reels do benefit from carbo though like abu 7000's and the like
cheers nereus

Rebuilt a Saltiga 30 today and the Delrin drag washers just didnt go back as they came factory.

Spun up some carbon washers for it and lets be honest, you'll never ever ever ever need or use that kind of drag in which carbon has created now. I do see the pinion exploding in a brass fueled cluster f*ck when everything is pushed pass its origional design use.
