I guess that's one of the pitfalls of buying online vs in store.

The current plan is to chop down a 6'10" wild weasel to 5'6" and rebuild the grip.

Conveniently, the butt guide is the only guide on the lower piece of the rod, so can easily rebuild the grip.

That seems like a lot of effort for a creek bass rod, but at the same time I kinda want to see how it turns out...

Quiet Friday night.

Process has started.
Just did a dry assemble.

Knocked out the hook keeper, stripper guide, and cut off the handle.
All going pretty good.

Will cut down the camo grip probably a 2 or 3 inches shorter, and finish with a hobo butt cap (dollar coin ).

Was worried that the rod would end up too heavy with the amount of weight taken off, but nothing to worry. Balance point is about 1" in front of the reel stem (Stradic CI4+ 1000/C2000 size).

Weight of the old handle and stripper guide is about the same as the finished rod weight.

The only thing I might need to consider is rewrapping the now-stripper guide with a larger one. See how it goes first.

dry assemble

removed parts

new rod weight

That's pretty neat. I reckon you'll want to up-size that stripper guide, but see how she goes first.
