A New Type of Line - Gliss

Hey guys,

Just saw a post on facebook about a new "type" of line that the manufacturers claim will replace braid. Obviously there is some invested interested in their claims but how sceptical should we be?

It's meant to have hmpe fibres in it and have zero stretch. They claim it is similar to mono in appearance but has an incredible diameter/breaking strain ratio - "At 0.010 diameter, it has 4kg strength".

Apparently one of the other benefits is the massive decrease in time needed to create these lines. I'm not sure about material costs but this could potentially drastically decrease the price of said lines.

Release here: https://www.angling-international.co...acement-braid/

What do you think?

Joel

^Wikipage to HMPE. Spectra and Dyneema are made from this too. Look at the production section and it is extruded too.
0.010 diameter? What units is that?

It looks promising. I have been hoping that someone would develop a single filament PE line sooner or later. Should be interesting to see how it performs.
If it's 0.010" then that would make it about twice as thick as a decent braid. If it's 0.010mm then that would be absolutely ridiculous.

Nope. It's a single solid strand of PE. Nanofil is non-braided fibres fused together.

Sounds great! I wonder what the costs will be like, mono or braid?

Did a bit of scratching around - the article posted above had a typo - the diameter for 4kg is 0.1mm, not .01 inches which is pretty impressive. It is already on sale in Germany at US$12/100m. It looks to be an interesting product - initial reports on German forums are that casting distance is impressive, it's a little wiry and tends to cut through FC leaders unless Slim Beauty knots are used. Doesn't seem to have the fluffing problem of Nanofil / Fireline.

High Modulous Poly Ethylene at a guess although yours would be more fun!

High Molecular-weight PolyEthylene, same as braid.
If it really is 0.1mm that would be bloody impressive.

Anymore word on this ?

Starlo made an order and has been fishing with it the last two weeks he said he is impressed and will be posting resuits soon

Here is starlo hopefully with a report soon and the diameter breaking strain comparisons.

Note the gliss also comes in 300m spools and three different colours including transparent.

Starlo was telling people over the radio that he's certain it will be the future. My girlfriend is going to Europe next week so hoping she can find some to bring back.

yeah i heard that podcast 'thebigfish' if anyone was interested that was before he had actually fished it though, im waiting on his report if he says it is the go ill be ordering a bunch.

On paper it looks amazingly better, hopefully starlo's report extinguishes any doubts i have about suppleness and line lay.
