I might have another crack at it - but the Mr Twister vid seems to have taken care of the mystery for me.

I can see the tail down method lifts the rear of the S/P on the slow roll that might be a good thing but i rarely slow roll placcies, its not really a very good vid to present your on the drop argument but i suggest you don the snorkel and mask and make your case....interested.
cheers nereus

Yeah my vid didnt turn out as I'd hoped - The tank wasnt deep enough to replicate the phenomena in any meaningful way, and my camera isnt capable of real slo mo - so I cut my losses midway through filming.

But I made the vid to see if slowing down the footage would prove anything - it didnt really - but I'd made it - so I stuck it up

The urgency to prove the theory with my own footage left as soon as I saw the Mr Twister vid - If he says to rig tail down to avoid line twist - that's all the confirmation I needed..

Yeah those tests were done with 1/8th jigheads - so I imagine that tail up instability is accentuated with lighter heads and big tails.

So you'll get great tail wobble on a constant retrieve - but the chances of spiralling on the drop with slack line are quite high

Where do you put a stinger on single tail grubs?

Was there more instability in the tail up in the Vid? Or just noticeable in real life? You would be able to see wobble better in two tone placcies. that said I do like a wobble though paddle tails wobble heaps.

Yeah the video was a failure - if you look very closely you will see the "tail down" tracks very straight and horizontal - whereas the "tail up" wobbles side to side and swims with a slight "nose up, tail down" swimming action

I was doing some testing the other night and it turns out its very difficult to rig a single tail grub that doesnt spiral on the drop - tail up or tail down - but tail up spirals worse

It was also my observation that the tail down grub swam straight and more natural

Yeah I think the tail up presentation comes into its own when the lure is on the bottom. Especially with plastics that float - they say the tail wiggles seductively in the current when rigged tail up
