Jewfish Plastics Rod
I’m hoping someone on here can provide some recommendations on a rod for casting plastics to jewfish. I’d like it to be two piece, rated to cast 21 grams or more with a fast action and stiff enough in the tip to set the hook, but not overly stiff. My budget is around $500.
Looking back on other posts I like the sound of the Megabass Racing Condition 6-16lbs, is there something in my price range comparable? |

as you have already narrowed down your options and budget - I would only suggest you make sure you get a combo you can cast all day with.
I made the mistake of heading out with 6-8kg nitro and a 4000 reel in the early days - there was not alot of joy casting that stick for hours - especially when you are used to bream sticks. The spots I fish dont require such heavy gear - so if you can get away with it - dont go too heavy. Heres a post from the past with some thoughts you might find interesting https://www.breammaster.com/forum/sh...light=describe |

I use a duff rods bass STIX for vibes and plastics with. 2508 exist and 16lb top end braid (anything thin)
7’ 3/5kg If we talking something that can stop them I use a loomis NRX rated to about 25lb and a 4000 Stella. Problem is that this is much more of a task to cast all day compared to a little single handed spinning outfit. Alternatively I use a Daiwa battler hot dogs and stay with a 2500 spin reel. The rod has heaps of balls and isn’t totally ridiculous with a 2500 reel. Best option is to go bait caster with a bass rod for throwing jackal vibes. You can thumb the spool if you need to and cast call day. Old school but the best option if you chuck heavy lures. I can chuck 1/4oz to 3/4 oz pretty easy on my go to BC outfit.

Agree with what others have said and go for a rod that balances a 2500 size reel. I have a couple of outfits with 4000 size reels and they aren't fun to cast for an extended period of time.
Shimano Zodias are a nice rod for the coin.

thanks for the feedback guys. In the end I found a Abu Garcia Villain at a price I couldn't refuse which will do the job while I'll keep an eye out for a good second hand option.

My fav is a Daiwa Battler Devel paired with a 2500 Exist. Only available second hand now, but you can cast all day with this combo
