Hobie Sport vs Native Mariner 10?
Hey guys,
It's time to get a kayak again but I'm a bit limited now... It has to be 3.0m or less to fit in my from porch (secured of course). I'm 6'2" ish and about 90kg which is going to make things tricky. Mostly fish for bream, with a bit of freshwater use. Hobie Sport? Native 10'? Who's used either, or perhaps both of these? Cheers, |

Havent used either but definately the mariner. Your way too tall for the sport. With the pedals at full extension you wont be able to straighten your knees. Peddling like this will shag your knees.

Thanks Benny,
It's hard to find specs for the distance from seat-peddle for either yak. Nobody wants shagged knees! |

I have a sport and I wouldn't recommend one for anyone over 5'11" unless they are going short distances and dont mind being a bit cramped.
I can't comment on the mariner |

The guys on the Native Watercraft owners forum on Facebook might have an idea about the Native.
On the Natives you adjust the seat to get the right foot lenght. Can't squeeze the Revo 11 on your porch ? |

Never used the water craft but had an outback for ages before my PA's. I personally would go hobie for a variety of reasons with one of those being resale. Hobie's sell for good money and sell quick, 50 times more popular than the natives.

There's a slayer 10 too that looks cool. I have a mariner 12.5 and its awesome. For bream and fresh water the reverse might be a real winner. Not such a big deal in open water but sounds like you're not doing that much

G'day hazell, can't comment on the sport but I have used the mariner 10 a fair bit. I'm 5'7 and 80kg and I find the mariner 10 to be a great yak! The turning circle on it is amazing and I can stand and fish from it no worries at all but some of the bigger guys do struggle. It has a capacity of 130kgs so generally the heavier you are the less stability it will have. Like chopperdog said there is a slayer 10 coming out around November or December. This will be an awesome option for you, it's 10 foot, weighs around about 26kg and has a capacity of about 227kg. I haven't had a run in it yet bit from what I hear it's meant to be very stabile, tracks well and still has an awesome turning circle. Check out the native australia facebook page for a picture of it. From memory I think the slayer 10 will cost about $300 more than the mariner 10.

Could anyone tell me hi h is the lightest pedal model from the two stables. I am short and light so length/stability isn't an issue, thus lighter is better for me.

The new Slayer 10 and Hobie sport are around the same under 30kgs all fitted.
The Mariner is heavier i believe ,have not seen the specs. |

Are the slayer and sport able to be carried short distances by a single person. For launching at places a little off the beaten track ??

Thanks for all the info, guys!
I've had a Hobie before and lived it, wouldn't be looking elsewhere if the sport was a little more suited to my size, or I had enough space for a Revo again. Revo 11 MIGHT just fit, I'll have to re-measure. Does anyone here have the actual total length? Slayer 10's look perfect... Not sure I can wait that long though, been off the water long enough already and want to hit up some big bream systems before then. I'll try test out a mariner 10 in the meantime. What's the maintenance like on the native peddle system, looks more intricate than the Hobie system which was dead-simple to maintain. Cheers, |
