The hunt begins

Hey guys
Some of you might have seen my post a few weeks ago about catching my first EP in my local area. Ever since, nearly every lunchtime i have been walking around the banks trying to tempt another, or even see if there is anything else there.

however, every trip since has produced donuts, aside from a very small tommy rough/ salmon caught by the kid who works for us.
I have spotted a few salmon/yakkas/tailor/big mullet smashing the small bait fish and even had one jump over my line the cheeky bugger.

So
i was down for my lunchtime fish yesterday and there was a baito fishing on the opposite side to where i was. He was fishing up against structure. I look up at one stage and it looked like he was snagged... tunrs out he is fighting a fish...
im watching the whole fight, bout 30-40 seconds when he lifts it up on the bank.
silver...looks like a trevally...but its fatter than that...maybe a perch... so i call out to him. ...... Its a bream mate!

Unfortunatley for me i went donuts again, but im now set on catching one of these bream i had heard were in the system years ago. I have been fishing on and off for 17 years there and never seen one until yesterday.

Im hooked...

so had another donut today, but after speaking to another forum member, he seems to think that the fish in my area are very tough to crack.

i think ive found a way to get my tinny in there as well...

High tide would be a good time to find those EP on the surface aswell

Which system are you chasing them in?

s/e of melbourne on WP.

Someone suggested surface, but cant get to areas to fish surface :/

It was really tidal today, couldnt keep a plastic near the bottom, the water seems to swirl in this area badly when the tide is running.
Tried a drop bear stiffy vibe but no luck again today.

I thought i would have ran into other species ie flatties, salmon, trevally ect but keep getting donuts.

Problem is im fishing a small area due to not too many options for lb fishing (fishing during lunch)
However the fish are there *bangs head against wall*

If you can, try to fish much further up river , if there;s ep or/and bream in that system they WILL be up to the fresh , try from there and work your way down.
Good luck

I think I know the spot. Only fished there once for EP with a donut too but missed one and had a follow that I saw. Hard to get upstream because of a weir(?) In the news lately? I'll give it another go one RDO. Land based would be really hard but I reckon that on the north side in the small channel behind the servo would be accessible. Good luck.

if there are swirls, then this can be a change in water speed, so theres either a bit of structure or shallow to deep, try get your lure into the deep spot, fish will sit behind it waiting for little fish to be forced down into it, I pulled some big bream up north out of these eddies.

Tough gig there at lunchtime land based. Tough enough at day break from a boat. North side if you can get there. Have you tried live baiting?

so had another crack today and decided to try a different plastic in a pumpkinseed turltlback worm. Tide was high... cast along the rocks...wind...stop...lift...wind...li..snag...nop e thats moving...no weight...

not sure what it was, had a good bit of weight though. Fisrst bit of action id seen in weeks.
Keep casting...fast retreive near the shore, placcy gets smacked (didnt feel overly big) thought wtf, then it gets hit again right at my feet... half the placcy gone. Thinking tailor or the like as there is a fish that likes to put on an aerial display everynow and then.

guess il keep trying :/

Last time I was there chasing EPs all I got was a snook. It leapt over a metre in the air when it grabbed a surface walker. Fought like a toady. That might be an option as well as tailor, in fact, that'd be my guess. Make sure you update us when you finally get one! I'll be there the next day!
