Leader for Bent Minnow

Picked up a couple of bent minnows this week that I plan on using to target bream and whiting. Not used them before and wondered what leader they work best on. I was planning on using 8lb mono (thats all I have in mono) but I do also have some 4lb and 6lb fluro. Any tips on which would be best?

Run what ever lb leader the environment requires mate.
Structure fishing with snags and the like, 8lb is fine. Sometimes I've even gone a lot higher. Flats fishing, 4lb and 6lb is also fine. Though I just generally fish with 8lb majority of the time. don't think it really makes much difference.

A few people will tell you to only use mono but I only use fluro and works well, depends on the size of the bent used to the size of the leader, for 76bents 6lb fluro would be the go, 8lb in heavy cover.

Thanks for that. i'll give the 6lb fluro a go this weekend. I suppose I could try the different leaders out but tying the fg knot in my yak is a bit of a pain so I tie them up before I head out.

I'll usually run 10lb if fishing snags, haven't found it's negatively affected my hook ups and it just gives you that added security. I fish fluoro as well.

In really nasty snags i use 15lb flouro on 76 and 86 bents...on the flats 6lb.......
The OSP bents are that good i'd say 20lb leader could be used (if need be) without affecting the lures action.

I believe why some are saying Mono is because Mono floats where as Flouro sinks and this may affect surface lures. Has to potential to drag (just floating lures) down depending on size of leader and length of pause etcetc.

any fluro leader under 16 lb is not an issue imo

Definitely going to try fluro now since i manly use 8lb and under on my leaders. Have always used mono on surface lures but hopefully this change will help my strike rate with surface lures

If you've left the pause long enough, the flouro immediately in front of your lure will be submerged, so your initial stab/retrieve will drag the lure subsurface (this is not necessarily a bad thing), this happens even on light flouro. So it just depends on what you want in your retrieve.
