Any bow hunters on here?
I've recently bought myself a recurve bow after owning a compound years ago. Will be shooting target and hunting as well. Looking forward to getting into it over Summer. Any one else here do any bow hunting?

"Q: Hello there I was wondering about the laws regarding BowFishing.
Is it legal ? if so in what waters, etc... anything you can tell me will help! Answer The laws on bowfishing vary from State to State so you really have to be aware of what is legal in your area. Hearsay does not stand up in court so you have to research the rules depending on where you are considering bowfishing. However generally bowfishing is covered by the spearfishing regulations unless stipulated otherwise in State regulations. In Victoria bowfishing is not legal at all although spearfishing is, same as Tasmania. South Australia is also the same except for tributaries of the Murray River where you can bowfish for Carp only. I believe that all the other States allow bowfishing under spearfishing regulations which also means you are governed by that States general fishing regulations." |

the nanny state strikes again.
I got a compound many years ago but could never get the consistent accuracy on the target range needed to hunt bunnies at longer distances so its gathered dust ever since.....wonder if I could convert it to a crossbow? no doubt that would be illegal too! |

Sorry Im not talking about bow fishing, that doesn't interest me. I'm talking rabbits, foxes and maybe some venison down the track. But first I'll be target shooting to get the feel for it. Was hoping I could get some discussion going with any archers that might be here on BM.

I'm a member of the Geelong Trophy Bowhunters. You might consider joining too. It's a good club with good people. It's mainly compounds, but there's a few recurve shooters there. I shoot a longbow. Joining a club is a good way to get started and to meet others.

I used to own and hunt with a compound and an old Ben Pearson fibreglass recurve. It's some of the best fun you'll have until you discover the joy of using a 45/70 lever action rifle.
