slim beauty opened up

If you're having trouble threading the eye of the needle to start your slim beauty, here's a pic (which I came across on a forum somewhere) that shows the figure 8 opened up. A bit easier to start this way I find.

I thread mine through once the figure 8 is formed ??? This is causes 2 areas on the knot to clamp and weave onto the line. THis way only gives it 1.

Anyone trialled the Slim Beauty VS the 5 Turn Surgeon. Been an avid Uni Knot user all my fishing life than discovered the 5 Turn. Might need to give these Slim Knots a go.

The figure 8 is not really 2 loops - it is just one loop that has been twisted.
you will find that either method produces the exact same result. just get a piece of heavy mono or wire and open up the figure 8 after you've threaded the 2nd line and you will see there's no difference.
method above is way easier on super fine lines

Thumbs up

I have never had the slim beauty knot fail on me. Goes through the guides without any hassle and is as strong as an ox

I just tried this and it works a treat, best tip in ages.
I was a double uni man for years, then went to the surgeons knot.
I started using the slim beauty knot a year or so ago and have never looked back.
Just try it and make up your own mind.

With the hint above the slim beauty would be one of the easiest knots to tie. If you havent used this knot, as Green Hornet says try it and make your own mind up.
For added strength I double over the braid and have found that this does make a diff..

If you find it hard to thread your braid through the small figure 8 loops in the leader, another trick that works really well is to tie a triple granny knot in the leader material, rather than a double, which is the norm. With three turns in the granny knot you will still get a figure 8, but it is much bigger and easier to thread your braid though. I struggle with a double knot, but I find it much easier doing it this way.

I've been doing the three turns like this for ages now, and if anything, it makes the knot even stronger, IMO.

I have seen it done with only a single over hand knot but more turns of the wrapping.
