Still, scientists don’t know what purpose the fluorescence serves. Some theories:

• It protects scorpions from sunlight.

• It helps them find each other.

• It might confuse their prey.

An article on the news website LiveScience reported another theory, by California State University arachnologist Carl Kloock. Because scorpions avoid sunlight in general and UV light in particular, he thinks the glow actually helps them figure out whether to come to the surface or stay underground, based on how much UV light shines on them. For example, these nocturnal creatures are less active on moonlit nights and during the full moon.

For humans, one benefit of the scorpion’s glow is that it makes these stingers easier to see in the dark. Which is perfect, whether you’re trying to study them … or avoid them!

Just in case anyone decides to order the one in the ebay link - be prepared to wait a while

Yeah it is a bit sneaky.

My glow in the Dark lures are going to take a while aswell so we'll see which package arrives first

My head torch will do if the lures arrive first.

It will be interesting to compare the glow achieved by a 1000 lumen Led Lenser and a $7 uv

I spose "It will probably take longer time for your item to arrive at final location" can be interpreted in 2 ways.

ie it will just generally take a long time to get there - or - it will take longer than we suggested.

When I first read it - I assumed they were saying it might take longer than they suggested but I now see the other interpretation

Yeah the last item of mine that showed up late wasnt lost - it had just been Holidaying in a postal depot in Tonga for 3 weeks

Other than that - shipping from China has been pretty smooth sailing - its usually when an item falls into the hands of Aus Post that the seas get angry

Have generally found Shipping from China and US especially Ebay purchases take a friggin long time 1- 2 months. Orders from Japan and it's like 5 days.

Yeah I experience similar waiting times from China.

I'm with Purple5ive - I get a theory in my head - buy some lure to test that theory - then forget I'd ordered them. Its always a nice surprise when a package shows up though.

One positive recent development on Chinese sites is the tracking feature actually works now

The parcel below has been in Australia since the 9th - so maybe Australia needs to take some of the blame.

It took 7 days to get here and has been sitting in Aus customs for 12

The little $7 light arrived - here are the results versus a 1000 lumen Led Lenser.

Left is UV and Led on the right

The top squids were charged 5 mins earlier - 20 second bursts each batch

Too close to call
