How's the new ci4's going guys.
I'm going to pick one (2500 size)up in a couple weeks and was wandering if anyone's thrashed theirs and how do they compare to the old model ci4.
Thanks.

I had my 2500 delivered today.
Must say I'm pretty impressed, no excessive slop in the reel at all.
A good workout will really prove its worth though.

HI guys,

I bought a new Ci4 Stradic FAML 1000 to go on a Loomis 842-2 GLX. Its a lovely reel out of the box, but I think it might be a fraction small for the rod and I'm thinking about swapping it over for a 2500 (prob also in Ci4, but I'm open to other ideas in similar price bracket). What do others think about swapping a 1000 vs a 2500? It will be purely a bream outfit and I will use it shore-based at rivers and estuaries, so casting distance is important along with balance.

You know you've got a light reel when you can't balance a sr glx!
The 2500 will feel right weight wise but will feel and look big.
I stuck to 200g stradic 1000 fi for that reason.

I'd personally stick to the ci4 1000 your problem may be slightly worse the other option I feel.
Cheers matt

I'd actually go a sustain fg1000 over the ci4.

Thanks Matt,

Your area (far sth coast NSW) is actually where I will be doing some of my fishing so you're advice is greatly appreciated. I'll check out what the swap over cost will be on a sustain... or might even just sell the stradic here and buy a sustain outright.

No worries mate, I've had a lot of loomis Shimano gear over the years and have mixed and experimented with different setups so feel free to ask, drop me a message when here if you want some local advice.
Cheers Matt

I had a feel the other day. Definitely a lot tighter feeling than the old model and they feel very similar to the sustains. Sustain is still a nicer reel however the Stradic isn't far off!

anyone bought and used one yet that also owns the Stradic FJ and/or Sustain FG?? Because now the Sustains have gone back up around the $300 mark with the Stradic CI4+, it seems the FJ's will be the much better buy for me unless people have opinion that the CI4+ & Sustains are that much better.

The two stradics feel pretty similar but the lightness of the ci4 makes it feel a bit smoother I reckon. Still reckon the FJ is one of the best bang for your buck reel out there, but love the lightness of the ci4..

Same goes for the FI. I picked up a stradic 1000FI on clearance in a shop recently. I was surprised how tight they feel as I only ever owned larger models. I was lucky cause some mung-beam had put an extra spare spool in the box. Tight reel, two spare spools, I was happy. ...then it inspired me to buy a Ci4 1000. Waiting by the letter box now....

So..agreed Pies1010. Best bang for your buck..Stradic FI/FJ series.
