CI4 Stradic v Fireblood

Hi guys,

It seems the Fireblood has had a decent price drop at some places, so I'm thinking of upgrading the old Stradic 1000FI with one. However looking at the new Stradic CI4's, they look quite similar, I like the look of both of them. I've been told that the Firebloods are discontinued - can anyone confirm that? How do they compare to the CI4's if the difference in cost is not looked at?

Yes the Fire Blood has been discontinued, its no longer listed on the Shimano website and most places that used to sell it are now sold out or not listed.

Also, the Firebloods are 184g (1g heavier than the Stella), but the CI4 is 176g. Not much in it really. I have wanted a Fireblood since they came out, but have never been able to afford it. I've tried one and a Stella and could not find much difference at all. With all the recent praise of the CI4, I'm not sure which one to go for. By the way, 1000 size. Is the CI4 the same shape etc as the Stradic FI, just different colour, knob and with the holes in the spool? Of course the material as well. My FI has served me for over a year now, and is only starting to get noisy and loose due to a couple of trips up to Exmouth.

So the questions is simply, if you had a choice between a Fireblood 1000FA or the CI4, which would you choose and for what reasons?

It is to be mated to an Egrell BeaR S1-7 1-4kg 7' 1-piece rod.

Ah well, that reel was the reason I put this thread up. Good luck with your purchase. Do the CI4's come with a spare spool like the FI's? I might wait until I can actually find one here in WA to test out... can't seem to find any.

Do the Stradic FI spools fit on the CI4?
