shimanos Maintenance port. Cheaper reels for same quality. Every good tackle store will stock shimano reels. The baitrunner series going strong for years. And ya see all the features they got on them. 90 bucks for a sedona and six ball bearing and its a great reel. They got a reel for everyone. I bet a lot of people still hav their 10 odd year old white stradics still catchin fish.

Ok, I have a Stella and a Steez, which one do I prefer? The Stella...
Couple of reasons:
-Smoother and more refined than Steez (Takes SLIGHTLY more effort to get the handle going, but I don't know why some guys on here complain about it, not all of us have toothpicks as arms, the difference in energy required to get the handle turning is very small)
-Feels more solid and well built than the Steez
-Looks better in my opinion
-Drag is better (more pressure and smoother)
-Gearing is stronger and more feels powerful
That covers Spinning gear.

Now, I have an Antares DC and a Zillion 50th Anniversary, which one do I prefer? The Antares... (Some true "daiwafreaks" will say, "but you havent tried the steez or z2020 yet"; whichever daiwas flagship bc reel is, but I have tried the Steez which is meant to be the bees knees, smoothness was the same as my 50th Zillion)
Reasons:
-Smoother than the Zillion
-Drag is miles better than the Zillion (smoothness and IMO pressure)
-Casts better than the Zillion
-Looks better than the Zillion
-Build quality and feel is better than the Zillion (paint started coming off my zillion on the plastic guards where my fingers sit, this was after 1 session)
-Durability of the Antares is better than the Zillion (bearings corroded after 3 SW sessions)
And that covers baitcasting reels.

Daiwa makes great reels, no doubt, but IMO Shimano's equivalent reels are better. Examples: Luvias vs Ci4, Stella vs Exist/Steez, Sol or Luvias vs Twinpower, Scorpion XT vs Alphas, Stella SW vs. Saltiga

Daiwa just seems to be re-using their old technology and milking as much cash as they can out of it. An example of this? Z2020 now has Digigear... So are you saying that their old baitcasting reels had gears that were not designed and cut by machine???

As I said before, I own many Daiwas and they make fantastic reels, but Shimano better IMO. I just thought I'd provide reasoning, many guys on here say "This is better than that", but they got no reason, no proof.

Like Crayfish said before. It's all opinion anyway. You can't really prove that one is better than the other. Who really cares? I mainly own Daiwa but I'm not gonna say there better or worse. It's about a preference to a particular style, feel, look, price, service or durability or whatever you like in a reel.

Cheers Braidy,
Not to rant or anything.

BUT

I think that you'll find that Daiwa's are the smoother much prefered reel.

While Shimano is the ones 'built to last longer'.

Looks like he found that Shimano is the smoother reel?

People will love and hate each reel. Its just a holden vs ford type of debate.

Theyre both good (Shimano and Daiwa) im sure the pflueger and okuma have good reels but I dont know a lot about them.

Shimano for me.

But I am susprised that Shimano is not too far behind in the poll which is surprising because it seems like most people use Daiwa that are on this forum

Nah - it's just that SOME of the Daiwa users feel they need to be very vocal and feel the need to defend their choice and bleet about it (....must be a bit insecure about their choice? who knows?). Everyone else just wants to go fishing........

Real 4 concept? This concept of 'comon parts' shared by various models.

This would save Daiwa lots of money in tooling/setup/manufacturing. This should lower the price of their reels. Increase their profit margins perhaps?
