12lb braid 15lb mono for finesse bream
Hey guys,
I'm new here so I apologize if I am doing something wrong. Is 12lb braid with a 15lb mono leader too heavy for light soft plastics and cranks on a 1-4 kg raider? I would of bought lighter line but I already had this stuff laying around. Also how many wraps should I do on an FG with this line? Should I even do an FG? Thanks in advance, Tommy |

I would suggest that the line you are using would be a bit on the heavy side for "finesse" fishing. Probably wouldn't get a decent casting distance with that line and light jigheads/plastics. Personally I'd start off with 6lb braid max (depending on brand) and use a 6lb leader if you aren't fishing around structure.

Hi Tommy
Always do an FG knot no matter what. We do 20 wraps in heavier lines and in our light stuff 24 wraps. Probably overkill but the knot only becomes longer not bulkier. 12lb brad and 15lb leader is a bit heavy but all depends on what fish you are likely to encounter. Go as light as you can and you will cast your lures further and they will work more so in the way their design dictates. Our heavy leader for the river work we do is 10LB fluorocarbon mainline braid 7-10LB

12lb is only PE 0.6 for most high end braids these days so if it is a high quality Japanese braid you are fine in that department.
I wouldn't use anything heavier than 10lb leader in heavy, snaggy conditions with 6lb-8lb being my everyday fish or down to 4lb for clear water or spooky fish. Good luck!

Thanks for the response. I looked up the diameter of my braid (J-BRAID x4). It is quite a thick line and I am not very happy with the quality anyway.

j braid quality
Colour has faded very quickly and it seems to wind knot a lot. I'm also not a fan of 4 carrier (I didn't buy it).
