Guys,

Thinking about ordering a Certate, but looking on the net they seem to be heavier than the SOL. I know its only 5 grams, but can anyone tell me if the performance is worth the extra wieght?

I can get another SOL locally for $299 and it comes with the "buy it now factor" instead of waiting.

Thanks
Rob.

After having used reels as heavy as the Hardbodyz (270g for 1500 size) and as light as the biomasters (205g for 1000), my conclusion is that the difference in weight is really only felt more because of the balancing of the rods rather than the reel weight itself. What I mean by this is, I'm using a Loomis 842-2 and having put on the "heavy" reel and "light" reel on it, when you're casting lures, retrieving, fighting fish, I don't really feel the difference in weight at all because the balancing of the rod is such that no matter how heavy the reel is, its still very balanced in my hand. I felt a HLZ Finesse special which is a little tip heavy and I felt the additional weight a lot more than I did on the loomis. The HLZ went really well with lighter reels like Luvias and up to the Certate (235g) but any heavier after that and it doesn't feel as comfortable.

Thanks for the reply.
Balancing the rod is no problem, but still want to know if the certate is that much better than the SOL.

Is there a difference between the Certate 2000 we get here in Australia, and the Japanese version?

I note that they are cheaper to import, but are they exactly the same?

I currently use a SOL 2000, and am very happy with it, but will consider buying a Certate 2000 in the near future.

High end, fairly light weight, very tough.
Super smooth, great line lay, awesome looking reel to boot.

Very customisable, if you got the bucks. If you do, well, 500 on a reel pretty much allows you to go all out, like this...

For those who wanna know, it's a Certate 2500.

Extras are:
Studio Ocean spool, blue finish, souped up drag stack.
Daiwa 55mm machined handle.
Bassart Hyper Spin knob, blue finish.

Sexy or what? I wish it was mine..

Yeah, sure, here it is.

Plat Japanese tackle

The spool, handle, knobs and also matching body caps are under "option parts".

That's just the standard parts list for the Certate, blowup assembly diagram. Comes with the reel.

For the goodies attached to the above pictured Certate, you'll have to order from Japan.

Thats great if you have already bought the reel

Its the inside that counts not the pretty anodise on the outside and well worth a look if you want to know what your in for if you are contemplating servicing the reel yourself which was asked in one fo the posts?

I have the certate 2000 and I love it, however, I would love it even more if it has a higher retrival speed. Lost a few fast fish when they swim towards me and I couldn't pull their head up. Would have lost the fish even with a higher gear ratio anyway.
