1-3kg - 1000 or 2500 reel?

Just another question on combos.

Is a 1-3 kg rod better matched to a 1000 or 2500 sized reel?

I want to run either 2 or 4lb braid for this outfit specifically for breaming so want to get the size of the reel matched well to the rod.

Im specifically after a 1-3 kg - so want to make sure the reel is the right size.

Cheers guys.

Personally i'd go a 1000 or 1500 on a 1-3kg stick.

Try to keep it as light as possible for the light rod but to ensure that the combo balances out properly take the rod in store and then match it with a reel that feels the best for you. everyone likes their setup to be slightly different.

I have several 1-3kg rods at various lengths.

On my 6'6s I use 1000s but on the 7' rods I use 2500s as they balance a lot better. A 1000 sized reel simply makes my 7' too tip heavy and vice versa if I put a 2500 on my shorter rods. Suggest you take your rod in and try both sized reels to see what works as will likley vary from make to make..

Having said that i much prefer the 2500 in terms of less wind knots so if its marginal then personally I would go the 2500

Cheers
Darren

the first reel i bought was a 1000 size and found it a bit small and got wind knots but did balance a 6'6 rod reallyy well. then i got a 2500 and that seemed a bit too big but does balance heavier 7' rods. i ended up switching to daiwa and getting 1500 - 2000 sized reels which are just about right for me and balance any of the rods ive got.

For my 7 foot rod Im running a 2500, as like the few posts above, seems to balance a lot better than a 1000 or 1500.

I should add that all my rods are 6'6" so that will make a difference with the balance when using a smaller reel

Like some of the guys have said already, depends on the rod length you are going to use, but you will also need to take the reel's weight into consideration even more. I have a few 1-3kg sticks and use a 2000 daiwa and 2500 shimano but both reels are lightweight (approx. 200gm) and balance out very well with them. I also have a 1500 size daiwa reel that is approx 240gm and is not as balanced as the other 2 mentioned.

As suggested previously, go to the tackle store and start matching up the rods and reels you're considering and go from there.

i like to use 1000 on 6'6 but on 7 2500 suits well cuz of the weight distrubuition. u feel more of the fishing.

I'm running a 1000 on my 7' 2-4kg T-Curve... I have a $2 coin placed snuggly into the butt recess which balances it out nicely.

Depends on the length of the rod, if i'ts longer than 7 feet and you're fishing ultra light look at a shallow spool reel like the 2506 series daiwa reel or a shallow spool shimano reel like a soare.

Shorter rods you'd be better off with a 1000 series reel

I have 2 main combos I use, One being a Shimano Fireblood 1000 matched to a Fireblood 7'2 1-2kg rod. As you would expect it ballances out perfectly. My second is a Daiwa Certate 2000 (with RCS 2004 shallow spool as a spare) which is matched to a Nitro Vapour 70 7ft rod which balances out perfectly also. I guess it goes to show that just because a rod is longer doesnt mean it wont balance out, however with in saying that the fireblood combo is made to be a perfect fit. It all comes down to the individual if you are happy then fantastic. Thats all that matters
