+1 - Call it the "Quality Old Gear Thread" as people may mistakenly post up 1980's Ryobi reels / handlines and that sort of thing.

So Doc you like Abu's also?
No I haven't Andrew.

Yes I like Abu, especially the round oldies. Never owned one but there is something special about them that attracts me - classic look, simple, no nonsense, reliable design etc.

The KISS principle is forever instilled in the Abu Ambassadeur history (until 2009). No disrespect to the Shimano Curado stable or similar however I would like to think that there were more Barra caught on old clunker Abu's than new age low profile baitcasters in times gone by.

Unfortunate that old reliable yet ugly technology gets cast aside. Bit like the 'Kingswood' - god I love my Kingswoods but thats another story...

Doc here's what's inside a Ambassadeur C3, if you ever considered or needed to do a "emergency field service". You could use a bottle cap & twig to open it up and some sweat to wash it out, some pork fat off a BBQ to lube it and continue fishing for the rest of the day. (I stress "Emergency" service lol).

I laughed so hard when I read the pork fat bit! Nice one and I agree with you.

Now I saw your 1500C, I want one also, no, two!

Good luck finding one under $200 now - they come in production every 20 years I hear - last one was when I was about 14 or so and they were $200 in every shop - as stated they release a limited number every build batch.

I purchased one of the very first 5600 C4's at Mossops when they were here on the Goldy.

Here's one for a "greatly" over inflated price - and I got my two for $150 a piece... http://www.ebay.com/itm/ABU-Ambassad...item35a78b7096

Its a toss up between round abu's, calcuttas and bantams up here. These three reels have pretty much carried top end barra fishing from i've seen

I've seen sh!t tins of both roll across my work bench.

Another lube that i've seen a lot of is red bull dust.

Great stuff lol

Thanks, Andrew. I saw that.

Check out these beauties.

Nagz, we might as well start an old Abu Garcia appreciation thread.

Oh hell no lol. Nah packed away in a box, lots of VCI & silica gel packs and hidden from thieving hands... Will open the box every couple of years to check for corrosion and change paper and silica packs. Going to be a treat to myself in old age to either fish or sell? Depends on life I guess.

I'd be sad if I was one of those reels.

They haven't got rods - but will roll two custom rods in due time.
