Learning how enlarge on the photocopier is new to me - as is knowing how much spray adhesive is required to stick a template to wood.

But I'm slowly ticking off the list of possible stuff ups - ( just noticed I missed a cut on the gill plate - also might broaden the head, round off the tail and tweak the mouth, so it doesnt look like a trout)

I dont think the coffee based stain is going to make the cut - But mounting the half sized prototype on a mirror may get a run

Just googled up some "tight arsed" diy wood stains - seems like I better add steel wool and vinegar to the shopping list

So the vinegar works out to be 15c a cup and the Steel wool is 13c a pad - They only had soapy steel wool so I peeled the outer layer off

I went with

1 - Coffee, White Vinegar and steel wool

2 - Balsamic vinegar and Steel wool.

3 -White Vinegar and Steel wool

Should be able to mix and match those colours to get a variety of stains

Another tight arsed option is watering down acrylic paint for a wider range of colours.

Or theres the store bought versions which are a bit more expensive.

So vinegar and steel wool costs about $1 a litre
(limited colour range and you still have to seal it)

Acrylic paintmixed with water would be about $18 a litre
(unlimited colour range but you still have to seal it)

and Store bought is about $50 a litre
(limited colour range but it already has sealant in it)

The whip cast - I like it. Could be very useful for fish on the surface that won't touch anything....just dong em on the head with a sinker travelling at 1000fps.

If you fast forward to 1:17 - the answer might be there

Yeah I had to develop it to cast my lures straight into the mouth of surface feeding carp
