In line hooks to replace trebles
Hi all, can someone please tell me what size in line hooks to order to replace trebles on metal slugs. The lures are the bog standard Halco or raiders or similar in about 20-30g weight that ill use in surf and off headlands for salmon/tailor. I’ve looked around and seen recommendations ranging from size 2 to 6/0 and many in between. My own guess would be 2/0 -3/0 but would like to know for sure. Local store doesn’t stock them so I can’t go in to see them but I recall the sizing seems a bit different in them to the stock standard ones.

Any reason why you want in-line hooks? I use normal bait hooks that are offset and they work fine. No spinning or anything different to a treble, just hook ups are better.

I mostly chose them because they’re recommended for that use, but they also have a far larger eye than normal which makes it easier to attach and it has freer movement. Not sure if it’s true, but the sideways bend of most hooks seem likely to encourage twisting whereas the in-line are straight. Just minimising the excuses I’d be able to use if I went out and caught nothing is all. The slightly higher cost isn’t too bad either as I don’t lose a lot of lures.

The Decoy in-lines are a good choice and a 2 or 3/0 should suit the lures you mentioned .. I've been using them on some surface lures for a couple of seasons now and can't fault them

I've been using these hooks for several years on my salmon slugs and they've worked very well. I think they're a bit stronger than the plugging singles.
