Uncle Larrys elevator rig

I needed something that sunk quick and could be slowly dragged along the bottom - it also needed to have interchangeable lead weights and lures.

I'm sure it already exists but I havent seen it before

edit (also comes in a quick change option)

Here is my effort Larry, been using it in current for Snapper for some years. One uses the original elevator hook the other a standard hook which i simply thread the plastic over the eye of the hook to hold the plastic in place. Note the not pretty but effective weight change clip

It basically looks like a dropshot rig with a lot more metal.

I've used a similar set-up for the Jewies...without the metalwork. My lure was usually attached about 30cm above a 3/8 or 1/2oz sinker, but I'd vary that distance depending on the fish marks on my sounder.

The plan was to put the lure at a similar height to where the fish were, basically shoving it in the Jewies face. It all sounded good in theory, but the catch rate wasn't as good as I'd hoped.

My work computer is blocking the image - so I'll check it out later. - Sounds interesting though.

Yeah I kind of came at this rig backwards - I wanted to attach a lure to the bottom of a baited pater-nosta rig instead of a sinker. I usually use a 30gram snapper lead in PPB - but the heaviest jigheads I had were 3/4 ounce (or around 21 grams).

I figured with the extra drag of the lure - I shouldnt be going lighter than 30 grams for my baited paternosta - I usually like to cast along way from the lightly weighted full pilchard rigs to avoid tangles.

Another reason I wanted to have the lure on a short leash - is so it wouldnt tangle with with the baited hooks while casting.

I also like the idea of the lure "Slow Grubbing" its way along the bottom as the boat swings.

But In all the excitement of trying to solve this problem - I forgot about the Vic fisheries regs on how many hooks you could have on the one line.

I stuck the photos up just in case it had some deep water/strong current applications

Yeah your design looks a whole lot simpler and would do a better job. I was worried about the tangles mine might cause - but I got caught up in solving problems that didnt need to be solved and in doing so created more problems.

I'm a bit annoyed I just paid 50c a piece for tri-swivels I dont need - Oh well - Its a small price to pay for learning a better way - thanks for the tip.

I have always been a bit suspect on the 3 way swivel idea. OK for smaller species perhaps but i worry about bigger models.
I find the split ring idea works best and simply changing the weight with the ring, only takes a few seconds. Simply add a split ring to any hook you want to use and then the appropriate weight and away you go.

Yep - K.I.S.S is usually the best philosophy

Reminds me a bit of this rig, skip to about 9 min for tank footage.

personally I think a rig like that would benefit from having something with a large volume tail/flap like the craw used in the vid above to get a lot of movement out of it. Even just something with a lot of appendages might do the trick.

If the truth be known - I was trying to copy Berkleys Elevator rig after watching a Vid of a bloke using a Shimano Lucanus Jig as a sinker on a baited paternosta

I'll try to track down that vid aswell
