When that knot head butts each guide on the way through - there must be momentary bunching of line behind it - and the knot would also get deflected sideways on impact - (especially with light or unweighted lures I use alot of) Obviously the lighter the line being used, the less impact each head butt has - but apart from only having to only tie one leader knot a session - the FG's dramatically decreased the amount of guide wraps I was getting. All my rods are lower end, off the shelf, units - and the differences between the knots performances was quite easy to identify. But before tying the FG's I would blame wind knots and guide wraps on my cheap old gear - turns out that wasnt entirely true - I'd just been tying the wrong knot |

Up until that point -Every cast I'd made with leaders, made a distinctive sound - and then.....it was gone. I genuinely stopped after the first cast and looked at the knot like a confused dog. For a second, I was puzzled, - How could a knot could be cast with so little noise? Did it actually go through the guides? Last edited by yellow door 1; 25-10-2019 at 07:32 PM. |

Another way around it is to use a casting fluorocarbon line all the way through, only one knot at the end. |
