cant say ive used the floaters to this day, but the shrimp work quite well when just retrieved with a flick or two.
as long as you got fairly light line you will hav no probs.
try a retrieve like lifting the tip with a quite 'flick' in a combination like... flick flick flick..pause..flick flick, and just vary the speed of the retrive, the number of flicks between flicks and the 'sharpness' of the flicks.
eventually after trial and error you will get the nick of it and ul be bringing in fish in no time.
but sorry cant help you with the floaters

The shrimps are right up there with Sandworms IMO, I love the fact you can skip them soooooo well. I flick em miles under jetties and stuff where other lures can't get, and the hits and bustoffs suggest BIG fish! I fish em with a constant shaky retrieve, kills your wrists to do it for a long time, but it works for me!

Keep things subtle and mimic as much as how a shrimp/prawn would travel.

So hops/flicks interspaced with pauses and using a glide is a very useful technique (along with all said above).

If you get a tap, don't hop it...... glide it a little, which means to slowly lift the tip of the rod smoothly. Or, place your rod to the side and glide horizontally the same way.

If you're on flats, Angled flicks/hops are good too.

Just don't go bezerk with the hops/flicks or even twitchs if you decide to use that technique. The bream will think somethings wrong and swim away in general.

The key personally: subtle and not too fast

Not personally, but over here in Sweden (a long way from any decent blackies) they rig em with some weight up the line so that the lure travels just above weed beds. Some locals here have good success with this method on redfin, pike and and zander.
Worth a shot I reckon
Hope this helps.
