Yeah someone priced that hook doctor at $200 - so I think I'll stick with my little file.

I find the hook groove on the Eze-lap indispensable - its done 100's, if not over 1000 hooks and still comes back for more

The twin sided Owner stone has a similar groove all around the edge, concave & convex sharpening. I've had those two for 12+ years.

Yeah It has special appeal to those carp anglers who camp on the bank and can wait days for a bight - they dont want a blunt hook to be the thing that cost them that one fish, they spent 3 days trying to hook.

When you invest that much time - a $200 dollar hook sharpener might start sounding like a small price to pay

It should service all sorts of hooks and various fish chasers not just carp, when fishers spend over a grand for rod and reel what's a small sharpener cost in comparison.
The most important part of a fishing outfit is what's attached to a fish.. hook, line and how good is the knot.Having a sharp hook is a good start and for those out there every couple of days chasing fish this device would make life a little easier.
For what it is yes it is looking over priced to some and to others would be a must have tool.

use the eazy lap pen in my top pocket, soo quick to sharpen, and test on nails. Just pulling that thing out, I would be done I reckon.

Yeah I remember watching some tournament bream fishing and the guy was replacing his Owner st11's thin wire trebles after every fish. Those trebles were probably too fine and finicky to sharpen (also too time consuming when fishing against the clock) but he wasnt going to risk have a blunt one on for the next fish.

But as I tight arse, I was wincing each time he did it Those hooks were about $1 each and he was catching a bream every second cast.

I also used to only fish a hook once, then throw it out, until I discovered Diamond files.

Theres a bit of mis-information put out there by people who sell hooks, stating they are only good for one session. But even my 10c ebay hooks can maintain a needle point and show no signs of corrosion after multiple hectic sessions.

Yeah there's definitely something to be said for a light weight, speedy solution out in the field.

I remember Royter used to keep his file on a retractable lanyard clipped to his belt - Absolutely no excuses for not giving your hooks a touch up, when you can access your file like a "Billy the Kid" pulling out his pistol.

The bulk and weight of this unit, might be better suited to more sedate styles of fishing, where you've got alot of time and a wheel barrow to help carry your gear

Nah not that I saw - any stuff under the barbs would be pilchard guts and there might be some knicks in the coating from pliers but no rust

and the fugly knot was from some hastily tied flashers the pinkies tore to shreds.
