Just cross referenced, you're right. But every time I look at one there is some weird moulding crease on one side, like a ripple in the plastic.

My mini-x even had a slight twist in the keel but
it makes no difference to how it rides... The rectangular hatch was only available on that yak so i bought it ... best thing i ever purchased. The hobie tub with all my tackle sits in the hatch and makes life easy. I added the anchor system that allows me to drop and raise it without turning around. When its up , it drags behind the hull and really has no resistance due to being a plough style. The yak weighs nothing and is so stable... im 94 kilos . Wait for a sale like i did . Yak was $479 Luxury seat was $89 Glide superlite paddle was $139 And yes , you can buy a chinese yak and get them with seat and paddle but they dont compare.

The weird creases on the hull on every Mini X I've seen to date.

I can recommend a Malibu Sierra; they have an open cockpit which has enough protection to hide your legs from the majority of the sun, are easy to outfit, paddle well and are quite stable. Because of the open design they give you the ability to bail out should you get into trouble going down rapids etc. I have given mine a beating on the various NSW bass rivers and it has been very durable.

Yeh i had a Perception Minnow before i bought my Tempo Fisherman, possibly a stupid thing to have gotten rid of however payload was a problem, sat a little deep in the rear especially in salt, freshwater was quiet sketchy. I am thinking its a possibility to get back into a sit in kayak as long as the weight capacity is about 150 kg, 100kg for paddler and the rest snacks and couple lures

I'm in the same "boat" () as you at the moment, looking for something around 3m long, less than 20kg and that'll hold 120-150kg (angler + tackle and occasionally some lightweight camping gear). I'm looking for something that'll be a decent jack of all trades - mostly estuary and freshwater work but also used for getting through light surf to drop shark baits.
I was originally looking at a basic sit-in but would prefer not to drown while trying to get through a shore break, so the Viking Nemo is sort of at the top of my list at the moment. Let us know what you end up deciding on! |
