Slim beauty works fine. Doesn't take long and it's pretty hard to stuff it up. I watched a 40second YouTube video and learnt it first time I watched it. |

You guys ever reduce the turns? I've mucked around with 3 and 4 turn. Slightly smaller knot I've noticed. Unsure about breaking strain changes. |

I have used 4 turns for quite some time now and it does not appear to have reduced the strength of the connection to where it has become noticeable. My reels are loaded with either 4lb or 6lb leader and even when I have snagged a lure it takes a good deal of force to break the knot and I have not been attached to a bream that pulls as hard ... yet . Regards, HBt.

Went out fishing for some squid this morning and had a 5 turn surgeons knot tied. Got caught a couple times so I cut him off and gave the slim beauty a try. Didn't get caught at all in my guides and doesn't take to long to tie either which is a bonus. I was using 0.8 varivas milky pink and tied to 8 pound fc, with a gen black rod.

I used to tie a double uni for all my lines, but as of late I have been tying an Albright for basically every line.

Although I agree that any old knot is fine for bream, I cant go back to an inferior knot to the fg now.

A FG knot will never hold 100% while using flurocarbon. Alot of guys i know and some GT gurus have also stated the same thing. Saying that the FG knot is one of the best braid to leader knots going around and yes it is way over the top for bream fishing.... its more of a knot for joining heavy leaders etc plenty of other good knots around for light line class etc. Also have a look at the improved Albright have used it for many years and still do to this day and have never had one fail to this day. Just make sure you lube and pull all ends tightly and slowly.

I might as well place my input.
Before a session at home, I like to do a Bimini twist in the braid (As much turns as I feel like) and use that loop to do the Alberto knot with the fluorocarbon. I've tested this link, every time I've been snagged and had to hold to spool to break the line, It fails at the leader terminal knot. That knot is a palomar to a snap. I've used it for a while now, never had to retie a leader in a session since. But, my backup plan is to do a Surgeon's loop instead of the Bimini twist when on the water.

I've found that when using microguides an fg is the only knot that never gets caught on my guides. Slim beauty and Albright only rarely get caught but even if it only happens once or twice a session, I'd still rather tie an fg and have the peace of mind that I'm never going to cast off a lure

With the slim beauty, do you need to double the braid over at all? Also any thoughts on the improved slim beauty?

I always double it over. it used to be 50 50 whether it breaks at the leader join or the hook (locked blood) knot when snagged. But since doubling over it almost a 100% at the hook knot or a weak point in the line. If in using 8lb or heavier, its always the FG now.
